Patriot League Men’s Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview

Teams open play this week with 24 games through Sunday.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 33rd season of Patriot League men’s basketball tips off on Monday night with nine of the League’s 10 teams in action. The 10 League programs will combine to play 24 games through Sunday.
 
Defending champion and preseason favorite Colgate will open at Buffalo with coverage on ESPN+ beginning at 7 p.m. Four more League teams will open the season on Monday night on ESPN+, with Holy Cross hosting Siena (7 p.m.), Bucknell welcoming Lebanon Valley (7 p.m.), Boston University taking on crosstown rival Northeastern (7 p.m.) and Army West Point meeting Keystone College (7:30 p.m.)
 
Loyola Maryland will open the night’s action when they tip off at DePaul with a 6:45 start on FS1. A pair of teams will play on ACC Network Extra, with Lafayette traveling to Miami (7:30 p.m.) and Lehigh heading to Syracuse (8 p.m.). Navy travels to William & Mary for a 7 p.m. game on FloHoops.
 
American will be the last League team to open the 2022-23 season when they travel to Marist for a 7 p.m. game on ESPN+ on Wednesday night.

SIX ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE SELECTIONS RETURN FOR 2022-23 SEASON
Colgate senior guard highlights a group of six Patriot League men’s basketball players to have earned All-League honors at the conclusion of the 2021-22 regular season. The Patriot League Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year is joined by teammate Keegan Records (Sr., F), who earned third-team honors last season.
 
Army West Point junior guard Jalen Rucker (17.1 ppg, 3.1 apg) and Holy Cross senior forward Gerrale Gates (16.2 ppg, 8.6 rpg) both made the second-team. Boston University graduate student forward Walter Whyte (12.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and Lehigh senior forward Evan Taylor (13.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg) were both third-team honorees.
 
FAMILIAR FACES IN NEW PLACES
Lafayette first-year head coach Mike Jordan will be no stranger to travel around the Patriot League when the League slate begins on Dec. 30. Jordan served as an assistant on Colgate head coach Matt Langel’s staff for nine seasons, helping the program to Patriot League titles in 2019 and 2022. Jordan will replace the Leopards’ legendary head coach Fran O’Hanlon, who retired after 27 seasons and three League titles.
