i was thinking shonen bat wasn't real and was just in everyone's heads and the victims subconsciously used him as a way to become free of their issues but now i'm confused all over again!!!

this op is so good for some reason, it’s so haunting and it’s fun to put the pieces together as you watch because you get more context for their scenes as you go

ngl the high frequency noises gave me a headache but this was a great episode

maromi(or whatever the stuffed animal is) still hasn’t been explained..(and she appears quite ominously large and awake in the ed)

taeko reminds me a lot of lain

the shonen bat is a savior but a curse. it takes and gives takes away all the troubles the victims are facing gives the victims a defect-ex: hysteria, amnesia, hallucinations, etc.

Hiroshi Hamasaki, who would go on to direct Steins;Gate, helped Kon direct this ep. His influence really permeates the ep with all the closeup dutch angles, character acting, glitchy visual and audio aesthetics, and the radiant luminosity of specific shots.
