— Description of forming Ottoman Empire |
The Ottoman Empire is a formable of Turkey. It's relatively difficult, requiring much of the Middle East and the Balkan Peninsula, which other nations like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or Germany may be looking to take. However, it is still one of the most common formables seen in public servers, due to the centralised location of Turkey within the required lands of the formable.
The player will get the Padishah title by forming it.
Background[]
The Ottoman Empire, officially the Sublime Ottoman State, was founded by Osman I, a leader of the Turkish tribes in Anatolia in the year 1299. Osman I expanded his kingdom, uniting many of the independent states of Anatolia under one rule. Osman I established a formal government and allowed for religious tolerance over the people he conquered.
Over the next 150 years, the Ottoman Empire continued to expand. The most powerful empire in the land at the time was the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire). In 1453, Mehmet II the Conqueror led the Ottoman Empire in capturing Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, proclaiming himself as Kayser-i Rûm (Caesar of Rome). He turned Constantinople into the capital of the Ottoman Empire. For the next several hundred years, the Ottoman Empire would be one of the world's largest and most powerful empires.
When Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire, a large number of scholars and artists fled to Italy. This helped to spark the European Renaissance. It also caused the European nations to begin to search for new trade routes to the Far East, beginning the Age of Exploration.
The Ottoman Empire reached its peak during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. He ruled from 1520 to 1566. During this time the empire expanded and included much of Eastern Europe including Greece and Hungary, making it the strongest empire of the time.
The Ottoman Empire began to decline in the late 1600s. It ceased to expand and began to face economic competition from India and Europe . Internal corruption and poor leadership led to a steady decline. In the early 20th century, a nationalist group named the Young Turks took over and started Multiple Genocides, most notably the Armenian genocide. The empire collapsed in 1922, which was then succeeded by a new republic named Turkey declared by Atatürk in 1923.

Strategy[]
The Ottoman Empire, due to Turkey being a strong nation and its required conquered territories being relatively weak, is an easy formable if you know what you're doing.
If All Major Threats are AI[]
First, build 2-3 electronics factories and a steel and motor factory. To start your expansion, justify on Greece and Syria. Once your factories are finished, buy the necessary resources to upkeep them and sell electronics to rich AI nations. For your invasion of Greece, use at least 1k tanks, and for Syria, use at least 100k infantry. Repeat the same process for the rest of your required territories and form.
In some servers, however, it may not be this easy, as other nations could have taken any of your required territories. If this is the case, you may use diplomacy to peacefully gain the required territory. If they are stubborn, you may need to result to war, unless they are way more powerful than you or have harsh geography, in which case it might be in your best interests to just try a different server. The following scenarios are the most likely easily defeatable major powers that could take your required territory:
If Italy, Saudi Arabia, or Egypt Expand into Required Nations[]
(No matter the scenario, if any of these nations pose a threat, you should build an aircraft manufactory, as it is unlikely players will have aircraft at this point in the game. Also, if your enemy was at war with a required territory and occupied most or all of it, declare war on said nation and conquer it along with your main enemy. Doing this will prevent you from accidentally liberating the invaded nation from your main enemy, and so you can take it for yourself.
Defeating Italy[]
If in some point in your playthrough Italy takes a required territory and they refuse to cede, build up your tanks to at least 3k and make at least 1 submarine, at least 1 destroyer, at least 1 attacker, and possibly a battleship. Make sure you buy the necessary oil for this, as this will be a very oil-hungry invasion force. Once you start building them, justify and declare war on Italy so they will take less time to mimic you and also build up a navy. Spread your tanks in a line and invade over the Adriatic Sea. Spreading your units is imperative as if you send them all in one unit, the Italian player can easily pinpoint the best place to gather and build units on. Once you land, use a destroyer to bombard any incoming Italian units, and use submarines to sink any strong Italian troop transports coming your way. If necessary, use your strong manpower pool and square cities to build more reinforcements of tanks to upkeep your war effort. Eventually, the Italians will capitulate, and you can annex their entire territory If they were at war with a nation before your invasion and they haven't made peace yet but occupies the entire nation, declare war on said nation and annex it after you capitulate the country that occupied it beforehand.
Threats[]
- Egypt will need Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan and Syria to form the Mamluk Sultanate.
- Austria will need Bosnia and Herzegovina to form the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
- Iran might expand west and potentially annex you to form the Persian Empire.
- Greece if it is controlled by a skilled player, might take Turkey itself to form the Byzantine Empire.
- Any European country (normally Italy, Germany, Russia or even Poland) might expand into the Balkans.
- Rarely, Russia might want to expand to Middle East.
- Saudi Arabia may become powerful enough to knock the player out.
Controversy[]
The Ottoman Empire formable has received lots of backlash and hate for its size in comparison to its territorial peak, much like the Byzantine Empire. In the Game Discord, there have been dozens of suggestions for a change to the Ottoman formable or an entirely new formable usually called the Greater Ottoman Empire.
These suggestions typically add Romania, Croatia, Moldova, Hungary, Ukraine, Georgia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti alongside the already required nations, in accordance with the Ottoman Empire's territorial peaks between the 15th and 16th centuries. Other suggestions which are more debated on are Slovenia, Slovakia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, U.A.E., Oman, Somalia, Iceland and Indonesia.
Iceland and Indonesia in particular are rather controversial in of themselves because of their statuses of Ottoman occupation and subjugation, some stating that puppet nations do not count but some would counter that argument stating colonies such as British Raj and French Indochina had significant autonomy and are still considered part of their respective empires too.
Trivia[]
- In the game, there is a typo in the Ottoman Empire's formable decision description, which misspells "empire" as "emprie".
