Review – Lassie: A New Adventure With the World-famous Dog

I remember watching Lassie on TV as a child and now one of Hollywood’s most iconic canines is back! Kaleidoscope Entertainment has brought Lassie: A New Adventure to UK cinemas.

Successfully re-establishing Lassie as a contemporary heroine for modern audiences following the global success of Lassie Come Home (2020), a remake based on the original book by Erik Knight, Director Hanno Oldierssen returns with another thrilling family adventure! You’d be barking mad to miss it!

Lassie

It’s the summer holidays! But this year, Flo (Nico Marischka) doesn’t want to be separated from Lassie: instead of spending their holidays in Gran Canaria with their parents, Flo and his loyal best friend opt to visit their Aunt Cosima’s (Katharina Schüttler) farm in South Tyrol, where she lives with Jack Russell terrier Pippa, and her foster children Kleo (Anna Lucia Gualano) and Henri (Pelle Staacken).

The adventurous duo finds themselves in the midst of a troubling mystery – all the purebred dogs in the village are vanishing! When Pippa becomes the next victim, Lassie’s detective abilities are put to the ultimate test in a nail-biting race against time to apprehend the thieves, save Pippa, and put an end to the reprehensible dog-napping plot once and for all!

Everything those of us remember from the early days of Lassie on the small screen is back and nicely done to entertain old and new fans together at a cinema near you. The adorable Lassie charms the audience with the K-9 antics and mystery that bring this story to life on the big screen.

The cinematography of the vista views looks amazing as does the colouring and scenes throughout the movie pop with colour, one thing that does take a little getting used to is that the film is dubbed into English from its original German. The lipsyncing can be a little off at times, but that’s expected with a dubbed film. Don’t let that put you off as Lassie: A New Adventure is a lovely film to watch for all the family and as this weekend is a Bank Holiday then it’s the perfect time for a treat to your local cinema that may be showing the film.

Directed by Hanno Olderdissen, Lassie: A New Adventure stars Nico Marischka, Katharina Schüttler, Justus von Dohnányi, Annette Frier, Anna Lucia Gualano and Pelle Staacken.

Director, Hanno Olderdissen and Producer, Henning Ferber said, “When Lassie Come Home was released in cinemas at the beginning of 2020 it was soon clear: the collie dog had yet again become a celebrated star, with the film being a huge hit in over 150 countries worldwide. The momentum created by the first adventure’s success allowed us to continue on our journey and Lassie has been made even more active in the sequel – of course we also have strong human protagonists, but it was important to us that it was Lassie who led through the story. We want to tell an adventure for children, but also for adults who still know Lassie from their childhood.
