WD TV Live Hub Media Center 1TB...owners thread

Hi, could anyone tell me if the live hub is using Cinavia protection please?

WOW I just discovered how to download content information such as synopsis, pics, sheets to movie files. It also adds a link to watch a youtube trailer of the movie. It's impressive!

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to get the trailers to work? On my movies I click options, then get content info, which adds a picture a description, but I have never seen the option to link or watch a YouTube trailer.

Anyone able to advise? I have 40+ mainstream movies on my box, so trailers would be great

I've just bought one of these. I was wondering what is the best way to organise my video files? I have ISO's, MKV's, H264's, Divx & BR Rips. I know when I play on WMClassic, unless I remove the SRT file, it plays the subtitles automatically. Is it the same w/ the WDTV Hub? Also, alot of my Divx's are split into 2 parts, CD 1 & 2.....will the WDTV play these one after the other or will I have to select CD 2 when CD 1 is finished? Maybe theres a way to merge them both without any loss of quality or syncing between audio & video.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction please....
I have just changed my provider from Orange to Sky, I have a wired connection and my computer runs windows 7 home pro.

When I first set up wd hub on Orange it was very straight forward and the hub was regonised and automatically set a network path to the hub through the discovery software.

I am having all sorts of problems with the new set up via the sky router.......everything appears okay.....I can access the hub on my Tele as before and see all the files I loaded previously, I have gone through the set up okay router is regonised no problem and it all connects okay ip gateway etc all working okay........when I go through the computer I can see the hub through discovery and all seems well until I try to map a network path and then troubles begin.....it can not enable a network path for some reason.....I think the problem could be the hub shows up as workgroup but my computer shows homegroup.....for the life of me I can not find how to change the hub from workgroup to homegroup......or am I missing something very simple here.....on the previous set up I can not remember if it was set to workgroup or homegroup.....I may have done something without realising it but blowed if I can get access through my computer.
Hope all that made sense...any hints or tips please.:lease:

Not all movies have the link, more recent ones tend to have it.

After a fruitless search and many hours of trying all sorts of configuring to help with my connection problem to hub from Sky Sagemcom router I have now given up and accepted the fact its not compatible with my hub.:thumbsdow

I am now looking to replace the router with one that I know will work (the orange router worked fine), so any advice on what wireless router to go for greatly appreciated...my os is windows 7 pro.

I have seen the list of approved routers at Western digital site but would prefer to hear from actual users.

Many Thanks

Bas

Buffalo WHR-G54 with DD-WRT and Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH with DD-WRT, both are cable only not ADSL. Someone I know runs one with the standard TalkTalk modem / router, which is rubbish but it works fine with it.

Im using the Sky Sagemcom 2304 router wired/Windows 7 and it works ok.I take it you know you will have to get the user/pass off the Sagemcom to use another router ?

Hi, yes I have got the user and pass already.......just hope all goes well when setting the other router up.....regarding the sagemcom I have tried just about every configuration possible to get it working but it was not having none of it...I have had a lot of suggestions from various parties but none of them worked.......as soon as I connect to my sons orange router there it is and working great.....fingers crossed for the d link.:D:D

If it does not work it will be off to the bay.:)

Am looking at my music collection on this unit through the TV and it appears that it has randomly ordered some of the songs within some album folders.

Does anyone know how to order the songs as per the album without numbering them 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, etc?

Just an update on my Sagemcom not working with the Hub.........feeling a bit foolish now...I have got it working, I amended the settings in my webroot essential to allow all traffic...opened WD discovery pressed the map a network path and there it was in all its glory on "Z".
Now I have a D Link dir 655 (think thats what its called) surplus to requirements....it turned up the same day I got the sagemcom working.

Funny thing though I thought I had already tried the "allowing all traffic" on Webroot, could be wrong though...I tried so many things to get it working I cant be certain what I did anymore.

Still onwards and upwards.....

PS anyone want a D Link Dir 655:D

Thanks

I have an issue with HD video lagging and stalling if I'm watching with subtitles on, toggling subtitles off and re-enabling fixes the problem, anyone else experiencing the same?

Hi guys
I'm thinking of buying one of these units but was wondering if someone could answer a couple of questions about it.
So, all my iTunes music can be transferred onto the internal HDD, and, as long as I change the folder location on my laptop in iTunes, can i still play music through my Airport Express if I use the Remote app when my laptop is switched off?
What's the best way to transfer data across? I've read some people are getting some slow transfer speeds when transferring across a network. Is it best to move everything across via a portable HDD?
Also, I was hoping to use it as a backup drive for any other files on my laptop. Is this advisable and can it even be done? Or can I plug my 250gb portable HDD in via USB into the back of the unit and back up my laptop regularly this way?

Overall, how's everyone found it? I've looked at a few different media servers / players and this seems to be getting great reviews and reasonably priced.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

I'm considering getting one of these to store all of my DVDs on, but I know absolutely nothing about media players and the like.

Main question I have is about the storage size of 1TB. Is the disc in this machine easily upgradeable? Or will it be a matter of external USB drives connected to this once the 1TB runs out?

I'll be using this solely for movies and nothing else. So another question is about ripped file sizes. What is the average size of a ripped DVD including all the xtras etc?

New firmware availible but what a time it takes to install !

Linksys hub here working fine.

Hi

I use my mac or pc to rip my dvd's/BRays and rip these to a portable 500gb usb drive (use MakeMKV usually)

(Also have a 3tb seagate drive perm connected to back of WD hub which I put the bulk of my movies onto originally. The portable 500gb drive I just use for "topping up" my collection)

Then I connect the 500gb to the WD and use the copy/move option within the WD hub (leave it overnight if there are quite a few movies)

Works a treat

Not bothered about streaming as prefer to not have any delays/buffering problems

Hope this helps

Hi

My approach has been not to rely on the internal 1tb hard disc and use an external 3tb drive plugged into the rear usb permanently

I just consider the internal 1tb storage nice to have if/when needed

I would say that a DVD with menu and extra's can be about 4-6gb (using Ripit on the mac)

BluRays movie only (using MakeMKV) are around 20 to 30gb

Yep, mine had an Update available in the week, probably took 20 minutes with 2 x File Updates and 2 or 3 restarts, but the main thing was it didn`t lose any info and all my DVDs, Music, and TV Series were still there.

I am still amazed I managed to blunder into picking the correct Player for my needs .... :)

I believe the Media HUB also acts as a DLNA server.
Just a thought, we all the reports of slow transfer speeds does it affect the streaming capabilities?
Sort of answering my own question I wonder if the slow speeds are due to the write rate of the HD, the read rate (thus the streaming) is OK.
