In your opinion which is the best broadband provider for someone wishing to play xbox live over. But not Spending over 25 pounds a month.
Consider the following;

Customer service
Download limit
Reliability
Speed
Cost
Good at hosting games?
Router / Modem provided

I have waitrose BB it seems to be very average!

If other, sorry i could not think of any more. Please feel free to leave your opinions

im with Madasafish, been with them for about 3 months now, upto 8MB speeds with a 20 gig download limit a month for £20 for the first 6 months then £25 after that, ive found them to be very good, good connection speeds, do get the odd disconnect now and again but not frequent and hardly any lag when on XBL

I voted NTL, but meant Blueyonder, as IMO it was peerless untill very recently.
I'm not convinced recently though, I think it went pear shaped when they joined up with NTL :thumbsdow

I use Nildram the customer service is second to none:smashin:

I have been using this ISP now for over two years and they are a pleasure to deal with OK they may not be the cheapest per month £25.00 for a 8meg connection but the connection is always stable and like I said before if You do run into problems the customer service is 1st class.

Oh one other thing I have a 50 gig usage allowance per month which I never come close in using and I am on LIVE allot the remaining allowance gets put onto Your next months allowance which I think is a very good idea.

may i point out that ntl and virgin are now the same provider called virgin. oh and blueyonder was taken over by ntl last year.. so that is still virgin.

I'm with BT and have had no significant problems with it on XBox Live.

The only problem I had was in the first week or so (about 18 months ago) when it just died and wouldn't come back. I rang the 50p-a-minute "help" line, which is connected to a call-centre in downtown Bombay and they were useless.

Re-installed the software and it was as right as rain and has been ever since.

Anyone got the Sky TV/Phone/Internet package? Was thinking of looking into this.

About the best ADSL ISP at present is Entanet, they only work through resellers though not direct. Also they only have 1 month contracts which is unique nowadays and means if you dont like the service you can switch relativly instantly.

Although Cable (Virgin) trounces normal ADSL in the UK though due to the speeds, but some of the ADSL2+ providers (which offers in real world terms slightly faster than Cable speeds) are meant to have great levels of service, but the areas where you can get ADSL2+ are limited and generally the main metropolitan areas.

Virgin means seem to be good since the switch from NTL.

If you can get cable where you are, have a look at that because generally it is quicker than ADSL. I've just switched to Virgin Media cable and it is excellent, very fast and very stable with unlimited downloads (usage policy applies as usual mind).

Thing is you're going to get people recommending loads of different isps to you and there's always people who have good and bad experiences with the same ISP.

End of the day it's your choice, but generally if you can pay a bit more, you'll get more. Think about the cable though, you can check on the Virgin Media website if you can get it or not.

I have been with Virgin for a while now and can't fault them. My 20mb line is always up and operational, usually around the 13mb mark.

I think more perfomance is lost by the way your have your XB connected to your router.

no offence but i am not sure anyone could catagorically claim to know the 'best' provider as there are too many variables.

i am with eclipse and would recommend them to anyone as a provider but are they the best? we would all pretty much vote for our own provider so maybe its better asking who to avoid as i have moved due to poor service and am sure many others would have done too.

personally i would avoid wanadoo like the plague but i left them several years ago and they may have got their act together now. worst customer service ive ever experienced.

Agree, I to left Wanadoo after they became Orange. I had been with them since the Freeserve days and had countless issues. Eventually when they became Orange I threw in the towel.

BT have been very good to me over the years. About 4 years now that I have been with them.

This poll makes no sense. How can people vote on this when most have only ever used 1 or 2 providers and have nothing to compare to. I am pretty sure BT is one of the less good ISPs out there but all alot of people have ever had

I have used 3 of your poll first went with bt the connection i got was really stable but then i found out not surprising really for the speeds i was getting. upload speed was shockingly low and although i could host a game with say 8 players from the ukwith mimimul lag but with lag.

Then i went with talk talk who are still trying to bill me for the shocking service they provided me with, my father in law has just left orange to go to talk talk and cant rate them highly enough i personally think there customer service is shocking and there speeds where quite frankly a farce.

I am now with be the only downside being with be is the crap router they provide you with but for customer service speeds and price and no downlaod limit cant fault them, also if you go for the middle package you can leave any time without penalty if you fancy it lmk and i can refer you for free set up

I voted Be but would have preferred to vote O2 (I don't like to use 'other' votes)

I've used BT, Pipex, Freeserve (whoever they are now), Sky, Be and O2.

Be and O2 have by far been the best for me in terms of service, speed, price and reliability. Cannot fault either of them, but the crown goes to O2 purely because we get it half price due to having a mobile contract with them too.

Voted other - O2

Had been with Be since they launched and then switched over to O2 due to the discount they give for mobile customers. Service has been very good as have CS. The only problem I have personally is that I use an after market router which seems to drop the line every so often..

Odd, I too am using my own router (DG834G v1, the big old thing) rather than the O2 box II. Since using it, my connection has been much more stable and the wireless doesn't drop/reconnect every 30 minutes like the O2 box did for some reason.

I'd recommend to anyone using Be or O2 to get their own router as the provided ones are pretty weak imo.
