An Honest Review of Amazon’s Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe

A few months ago, I decided to give Amazon’s new service, Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe, a try! From what it is to my thoughts on the online personal shopping service, here’s my full Amazon Personal Shopper review.

An Honest Review of Amazon's Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe | Monthly Personal Styling Service

What is Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe?

Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe is the new online personal stylist service from Amazon, exclusively for its Prime members.

It’s a monthly try-before-you-buy service, similar to Stitch Fix or Nordstrom Trunk Club, where a personal stylist sends you a curated box of clothes and accessories based on your style preferences.

You then get to try on the clothes for 7 days and return anything you don’t want, for free!

Prime Wardrobe vs. Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe

Amazon offers two different Wardrobe services that you can take advantage of as a Prime member.

Both run on the same idea: You get to select clothes that are shipped to you and then you get 7-days to try them on and return them before you’re charged the retail price(s) of the item(s).

Prime Wardrobe – This option is completely free. You choose the items that are sent to you and checkout at your own convenience.

It’s important to note that not ALL clothes and accessories are available to try on in Prime Wardrobe. When you’re searching for clothes, you’ll want to use the “Prime Wardrobe Eligible” filter to see which items are available for this service.

Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe – This option has a monthly fee of $4.99. A collection of items are chosen for you by a personal stylist and then you get to narrow down which items get sent to you.

How Does Amazon Personal Shopper Work?

Getting setup for Amazon’s online personal styling services is super easy and pretty fun! Here’s how it works.

STEP 1: You start by filling out a styling survey. This will ask about style preferences, favorite brands, colors & patterns to avoid, your body shape, budget preferences, and more.
This was one of the most in-depth styling surveys I’ve ever filled out. I was super impressed with it!

STEP 2: You customize your styling and leave a note for your stylist. This section allows you to choose the types of items you’d like to receive – cardigans, button-downs, leggings, boots, etc.

The note for your stylist is where you can mention color preferences, specific styles you’re looking for, etc.

Once you’re a member, you will complete this step for each box.

STEP 3: Play the Love It or Leave It game. This is totally optional, but a step that I suggest! Amazon will take you through a ton of items that you can rate by giving either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. There is also a This or That version of this game.

These games will help your stylist get a better feel for your style preferences!

STEP 4: Preview & pick from your stylists’ choices. A few days after completing your survey, you’ll get an email with all of the items your stylist picked out for you!

You then preview the picks and choose up to 8 items to try on at home.

You can switch out sizing and even color options if they are available.

STEP 5: Try everything on and choose your favorites! Once you’ve picked your items, they should arrive within 4-6 business days once they ship.

You have 7 days to try everything on and to decide what you like.

If there are items you want to return, go into your Amazon account, select ‘orders’, and you should now see the items listed in there. You can process a return for any unwanted items.

STEP 6: Return any unwanted items. Amazon provides a pre-paid return label inside your box. Put your unwanted items back in the box, slap on the return label, and drop it off at a UPS location.

What I Liked & Didn’t Like About Amazon’s Personal Shopping Service

Here are some of the things that I really liked and really didn’t like about my Amazon Prime Wardrobe Personal Shopping experience.

WHAT I LIKED:

  • It’s super affordable! Compared to programs like StitchFix, which charge $20+ for their styling fee, Amazon’s is only $4.99
  • The preview feature allows me to pick what I want. This is one of the best parts of the program because it ensures that you are getting sent the products that you actually want to try on.
  • It’s a great way to try on new things! Using this service has allowed me to try pieces that I would have never originally picked for myself, but ended up loving!
  • They do a fairly good job at sticking to your budget. Some items were definitely over my requested budget for that clothing category, but never by more than $15 or so.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The clothing quality wasn’t great. I wasn’t overly impressed with the quality of the items that I picked, but I also set the lowest possible budget for each clothing category so that may have just been my own fault.
  • The process took longer than expected. From the time you submit you fill out your survey to the time you get your box is about two weeks. In theory, that’s a pretty quick turnaround time but just feels slow for Amazon.

My Overall Thoughts on Amazon’s Personal Styling Service

At this point, I’ve received three Prime Wardrobe boxes and I will say — the more you do it, the better the clothes get!

The first box I received felt way off, but I think part of it was my own fault.

For instance, my idea of a button-down shirt (I think of flannels) was much different than their idea of a button-down shirt (They gave me dress shirts) so I quickly learned that lesson!

I learned that the more clear I was with my styling notes and the more feedback I provided on my items, the better my boxes got!

Overall, I thought it was a super fun service and while I don’t plan to use it monthly, for only a $4.99 commitment, I will totally use it again!
