John Warden (former Design Manager, Transformers 2014-2020) is now the Global Design Lead for #PowerRangers (and Ghostbusters). If you held a Transformer in your hand in the last 6 years, chances are John had a part in its creation.

It's unknown at this time who his replacement will be, but he's certainly overseen the design for some very well received lines (Siege, Earthrise, Prime Wars Trilogy), not to mention the biggest Transformer to reach production, Unicron!
How do you feel about this news? Please feel free to speculate about his successor, his influence, and what you think below!

FEATURING CHARACTERS FROM
MIGHTY MORPHIN SEASON 1
MIGHTY MORPHIN SEASON 2
AND EVEN MIGHTY MORPHIN SEASON 3
And here's an online exclusive Zeo Red Ranger for the Tommy fans
Jokes aside, I hope this means more focus on the megazords. I've only seen the Beast Morphers zords a handful of times and I have straight-up never seen the gorilla or "mantis" at all. They feel like an afterthought because they put action figure people in charge of the brand.

His LinkedIn page lists 2020 as his last year working on Transformers, while it lists Power Rangers and Ghostbusters as "current".

You jest, but that name has actually been used before. It was the name of Jetix's mini-block of rerun Power Rangers episodes from seasons that preceded the current ones.King Kuuga wrote:INTRODUCING POWER RANGERS GENERATIONS
On Fox Kids, it was called "Power Rangers Power Playback". On ABC Family during the post-Fox Kids/pre-Jetix era, it was named "Best of Power Rangers". "Power Ranger Generations" was the final name used before Jetix died.

I'm sure whoever takes over will pick up where he left off and continue with updating lesser known characters while rehashing the 84 Autobots.
... or we'll just get the 84 Autobots again.

I remember Power Playback and BOPR but I don't remember "Generations". What point in time was that? I tuned out around 2005 when I jumped to Sentai. Maybe I just have a spotty memory.

I believe it was during the latter half of the Disney Era but before RPM, during the time when Jetix moved to only airing on Toon Disney instead of both it and ABC Family. After 2005 sounds about right.King Kuuga wrote:Sabrblade wrote:You jest, but that name has actually been used before. Fun fact: here in Mexico, the Power Ranger Generations was stuck in a loop of Mighty Morphin and the first half of Zeo, not even full Zeo, so yes, a direct analogy of Transformers Generations.

Many say that Transformers have been G1 obsessive for years because of Warden. Now that he's gone elsewhere, Transformers will finally be able to move on.

I agree. I've been trying to find a way to phrase it in a way that doesn't make me come off as a huge ******, But until now failed. I'm hoping for exactly what you said. Don't get me wrong, I like G1 just as much, Maybe more than the next guy, But Transformers as a franchise is so large, That there's something for everyone, And plenty more to focus on than just G1. Hopefully Beast Wars will be the start of a new era in Transformers.
The sky really is the limit.
Beast Machines, RID, The Unicron trilogy, Maybe even Animated, And plenty more.
That's why Thrilling 30 was my favorite line, It had a great mix of everything. IDW, (My personal favorite)
G1, G2, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Unicron trilogy, RID, A little bit of everything.
I can honestly say thats one of the only lines I collected every figure in (Except for a couple of the legends).
I'm personally hoping for something like that again.

Warren was a GOD and everything that happened to the franchise was his doing and his alone.
That's how it sound anyway from the complainers.
Still, he did had a heavy influence and I'm honestly thankful for that. We got Combiner Wars, Titan Return, Siege, and Earthrise that are all stellar lines with so many "budget masterpieces".
There's still so much to tap into G1. But G1 can take a break and we can put back the S in Generations.
Warren going to Power Rangers, I'm pretty sure the franchise will have the revival it need.

CW g1, g2, armada, new stuff
Titans return g1, g2, new stuff
Potp g1, new stuff, beast wars,
Seige g1, g2, armada, car robots, bay, new stuff
Netflix g1, new characters
Earthrise g1, new stuff
Kingdom g1, beast wars, and more
Selects g1, g2, energon, new stuff
If the future of transformers is just two step changers or steps in the wrong direction, it won't really matter with the decades of figures available and that continue to be made.
Titans return/takara legends will probably be my favorite and go to line out of the generations lot but there is always room for surprises and awesomeness in other lines.

Ah but you're forgetting people's reactions to the new stuff and non-G1 elements. Remember the kick off over poor alpha bravo? How people disliked the armada megs? Then the kick off over making characters headmasters?
Fans will hate on both sides.

I wasnt on the forums at that point to complain about alpha bravo but my complaints would have been on how hard it was to get aerialbots to complete superion (and still would be, if alpha bravo hadn't become hard to get too).

As for the topic of Warden moving on, for the most part I like his contributions to the franchise. There are a couple of things I could pick on, but I won't, because IMO what we got under him is far better than what we had before he came along. 5 or 6 years ago, I was disheartened with just about all facets of the franchise, and the arrival of CW got me excited again. I even picked up the IDW books, with mixed results. So as far as I'm concerned he has only gratitude from me for reigniting my passion for the toys, and helping me refocus my collection and collecting habits. I don't buy Power Rangers or Ghostbusters, but I think his involvement will only improve the product. Thank you and good luck, Mr. Warden.

Well I’m not going to lie, I’m a little saddened at Warden’s decision to move on, but it was eerily predicted by me, and I wish him the best. It was CW that brought me back from a 10-year absence, and depending on what happens after Kingdom, I may, for the 3rd time in my life cease collecting for a time, but as always, I’ll wait and see.
Now I talked in another thread about some of the similarities between the original Transformers release time period, and what’s occurred during Warden’s tenure as project manager. I’m sure there was no overall grand scheme to do a complete original series redux, but in some ways, it does feel like that, for me at least. 1984-1990 (7 years). vs 2015-2021 (also 7 years). The original series had a new product line each year. Warden will have overseen Six lines (Two Trilogies) when it’s all over in that seven-year span, which may spill over a bit into 2022 based on current real-world situations, who knows…
But within those Six lines, many of the original series characters I enjoyed have been brought back, especially with respect to Combiners and Titans. Of course, Hall of Fame characters have had multiple releases since 2015. With all that being said, there is still a 4th wave of Earthrise to be revealed, as well as the entire Kingdom line (spoilers from the poster not withstanding). I’ve tried to compile a list of as many characters from 1984-1990 that haven’t seen a release from 2015- ER wave 3 that we know of. Feel free to speculate if we will get any of these or not before Kingdom is done. There will be a couple of *tweaks*. I’m going to let Metroplex pass on this. I know it was not Warden’s, but I’m ok with the one from T30. Also, I may put some asterisks * next to anything that had a decent T30 release, as it may not be necessary at this time to revisit those. Additionally, there may be some representations of characters that some fans may not feel are Ideal (such as Pretenders being Prime Masters, or Slamdance being a Skytread repaint etc…), but I am going to count them, nonetheless. Additionally, I’m not going to count Action Masters. So, without further ado:
1984 – Every Character from this release year seems to have been released between 2015 and now
1985- Whirl*, Roadbuster*, Tracks, Skids, Barrage, Ransack, Venom
1986-Sandstorm*
1987-Trainbots (Raiden), Artfire, Pointblank, Sureshot, Goldbug, Freeway, Rollbar, Searchlight, Wideload, Slugfest, Twincast
1988-Override, Backstreet, Chainclaw, Catilla, Waverider,Skyhigh, Groundbreaker, Splashdown, Guzzle, Fizzle, Sizzle, Hosehead, Gunrunner, Scoop*, Quickmix, Landfill, Slapdash, Iguanus, Finback, Bugly, Crankcase, Roadgrabber, Squawkbox, Carnivac, Snarler, Black Zarak, Sparkstalker, Flamefeather
1989-Monstructor/Dinoking, Skyhammer, Roadblock, Pincher, Doubleheader, Longtooth, Stranglehold, Crossblades/Blue Bacchus, Vroom, Erector, Flattop, Roughstuff, Overload, Skystalker, Starsaber, Victory Leo, Road Caesar, Landcross
*Micromasters- It occurs to me, there are just too many for me to keep track of. I don’t know how many have been released vs the originals, but if Kingdom is going to include them, then probably most of them will have been revisited, I would hope.
In hindsight, a lot of ground has been covered, and we've had meany great toys I never thought we'd see characters of again. It will be interesting to see how many, if any of these missing bots gets a release before the end of Kingdom.

More than that, actually. AOE was his first line, then he oversaw RID 2015, TLK, Studio Series, and while he didn't oversee it, he designed (whether fully or partially) six of the Thrilling 30 molds:o.supreme wrote:Warden will have overseen Six lines
