Astronomical Clock
The Astronomical Clock (Prask orloj), which dates from the 15th century, is built into the front side of the Old Town Hall Tower at the Old Town Square.

To see the clocks intricate construction in motion, join the crowd in front of the tower and watch the Procession of the Twelve Apostles.

The spectacle takes place on the hour every hour, from 9am to 11pm: a trap door opens to reveal Christ marching out followed by his disciples, and a skeleton of death tolls a bell to a statue of a defiant Turk.

Below the Astronomical Clock, 12 medallions feature the signs of the zodiac. These were added in 1865 by the famous Czech painter Josef Manes.

Old Town Hall Tower
The Old Town Hall Tower (Vě Staroměstsk radnice) at the Old Town Square is one of the most striking buildings in Prague.

It was built as a solitary tower in 1338, but in 1364 was knocked into a private house adjoining it.

The enlarged structure subsequently connected to houses on the other side. And eventually the entire amalgamation of buildings became the 'Old Town Hall'.

In 1470, further integration work was carried out on the interior of the Old Town Hall, and the facade was remodelled in the Gothic style.

Visitors can climb to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower to take in magnificent views over the Old Town Square and far beyond. You can either walk up or ride the elevator for an additional fee.

Tickets are available from the tourist information centre in the Old Town Hall building. As well as admission to the tower, a ticket includes entry to the Historical Halls of the Old Town Hall and the Gothic Chapel, where civic ceremonies are held.

Less well-known is the Medieval Underground that lies beneath the Old Town Hall; a huge labyrinth of chambers and tunnels that include the former Old Town Prison. This fascinating area can only be visited with a guide, which you can do by booking the: Historical Centre & Medieval Underground Tour.

Tourist Information Centre
The reception area of the Old Town Hall houses a Prague Tourist Information Centre. It provides details of upcoming events in the city, and information on the museums and historical monuments in Prague.

You can also ask for a Prague map and public transport information - tourist information.
