OMG: Oh My God!

This Hindi satirical comedy-drama film follows a Gujarati athiest Kanji Lalji Mehta played by Paresh Rawal who runs a shop of idols selling Hindi idols that is completely devastated by an earthquake. When he's barred from claiming disaster benefits on the grounds that the earthquake is an 'act of God', Kanji takes to the court and launches a case against God and his representatives. The high-profile, controversial case attracts much attention and criticism including the wrath of his near and dear ones, uet Kanji's resolve remains intact. But all this changes, when the divine Krishna Vasudev Yadav played by Akshay Kumar, himself decides to help him out posturing as a real estate agent. The movie follows the lawsuit as it exposes the logical fallacies of religious extremism as well as reaffirms Kanji's faith in the supernatural. Mithun Chakraborty, Om Puri, Mahesh Manjrekar, Murali Sharma, Govind Namdev, Lubna Salim and Poonam Jhawer helm important supporting roles. 

Oh My God! is based on a Gujarati stage-play Kanji Virudh Kanji, which was further inspired by the 2001 Australian comedy film The Man Who Sued God. The film is written and directed by Umesh Shukla and was produced and distributed by  Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, S Spice Studios, Grazing Goat Pictures and Playtime Creations. Upon it's release, the film recieved praise for tackling a previously untouched and brave subject in an amusing manner. It became the recipient to the Best Hindi film award by Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS) during the second IRDS Hindi Film Awards for social concern, as well as the Filmfare award that year for the Best Adapted Screenplay. Oh My God!'s success prompted remakes in Telugu and Kannada in addition to a stand-alone remake titled OMG 2.
