Northwestern University Reviews

Amazing student body who taught me more than some of the professors. Engaging courses. Fun and easy access to Chicago. Beautiful, beautiful campus, but I feel like the school could've done a better job preparing us to get jobs after graduating.
Overall, Northwestern is an amazing school and I would highly recommend applying to those who are even slightly interested.
NU is a great school: wonderful courses, amazing professors, cool people, and lots of activities/clubs to take part in. Although no school is perfect, NU is really well-rounded and has a phenomenal alumni network to tap into.
It was great, the courses were robust and diverse. The faculty were always available for help. The classes are not hard to follow if you have previous experience.
I'm a full time employee and am trying to finish my bachelors degree at Northwestern University. Overall, I would recommend their programs if you are trying to obtain a bachelors degree while working. I've taken 2-4 classes each quarter and happy with the experience and valuable lessons taught.
I have a class that also includes co-workers as well as a very diverse set of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds that really helps when learning.

The academics are challenging, but the professors are eager to help students understand each of the topics. Nonetheless, the fast paced courses can be overwhelming at times. The campus and area are beautiful, with many coffee shops and restaurants, and Chicago is only a train ride away. The social scene is pretty good as well because there are many clubs and student organizations available to students.
Great school and academics, just some people who are not the best of character. Lots of competition, even in extracurriculars and the quarter system is oftentimes overwhelming
The campus is beautiful and it's a very nice area to walk around. I feel very safe and there aren't many threats to my feeling of safety. The campus is definitely split north and south, with the south area being a bit more humanities-based and quieter, while the north area holds the technological buildings and has more of a party scene going on. I enjoy the differences between the two areas.
Northwestern has an incredible network of professors who are preforming cutting-edge work in all their fields. Impressively, after an entire undergrad career there is only one professor who I would name as not a good professor, and that review is simply isolated to their teaching ability, not their subject knowledge. The learning support system is also extensive, and students are incredibly supportive as well. There is a culture of enabling yourself and those around you to reach new heights. While all the academics and research are amazing, I would say Northwestern needs to work on its accessibility to mental healthcare and ties to the greater Chicagoland community. There could be many more community outreach programs designed to benefit the diverse and interesting Chicago population, from academics to student life.

Northwestern is like any college, elitist and often causes harm to its most vulnerable students. As a low income student, I was constantly going into the financial aid office to try and ask for more help or for information. They gave me very little to work with and often had no information to help me. However, it is beautiful and has wonderful access to Chicago
Northwestern is a very good school in so many ways from incredible professors to top-tier research labs. However, our mental health resources are scarce, money is not allocated correctly, and majors aren’t all given the same credible standing and resources.
I would not recommend this institution to anyone! They have TERRIBLE communication and do not care about the individual person at all. They are very rigid and do nothing to handle unique situations. This was my dream school! I applied and was accepted early decision, I had no doubts about where I wanted to continue my education after high school. After a year and a half, I have learned that they do not care about the individual student AT ALL; there is a sink-or-swim mentality campus-wide. It is ingrained in everything at Northwestern. They operate on their prestige and treat people like they don't matter because they can! It is NORTHWESTERN. They don't have to budge or accommodate. It is their way or no way. It is unfortunate that this is the normal behavior. They have a superiority complex and truly need to be humbled. With the cost of attendance at this school, no student should feel unvalued and as if they don't matter. To anyone considering this university, PLEASE reconsider.
Northwestern is an incredible place! The quarter system make it so you can dive into any variety of interests, the campus is beautiful, and there is a strong extracurricular community. I loved my time there more than anything.
A lot of classes are offered. There are distribution requirements but also a lot of room for individual selection. The curriculum is on a quarter system, where the school year is divided into trimesters, instead of a typical semester system, so the coursework is taught pretty fast.
Amazing academic environment. All students care about their work and work hard. Great for STEM opportunities and very easy to get research in. Professors are passionate about their subjects and overall the student body is very friendly.
I loved my time at Northwestern. The diverse curriculum and core offerings made sure I was able to access classes across all of the different colleges. I was able to explore different interest areas easily. I loved being in Chicago and having proximity to internships there.
