  • We will hold registration at the Law Enforcement Training Center on July 12, 2024, at 8:30 am, 10 am, and 12:30 pm. You are REQUIRED to attend ONE of these sessions.

Admission Procedures and Requirements for Law Enforcement Training

  • A PCC admission application must be completed online
  • BLET packets must be picked up from the Law Enforcement Training Facility at 2096 Central Park Drive in Winterville, NC
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a high school equivalency
  • Must have a letter of sponsorship from an NC Law Enforcement Agency
  • Must be 20 years of age
  • No felony convictions
  • No major misdemeanors
  • Must pass a physical exam by an NC doctor
  • Must pass a required reading test

This course covers the skills and knowledge needed for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina. Emphasis is placed on topics and areas as defined by the North Carolina Administrative Code. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the topics and areas required for the state comprehensive examination. This is a certificate-level course. Students successfully completing a Basic Law Enforcement Training course accredited by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission will receive credit for CJC 120, CJC 131, CJC 132, CJC 221, and CJC 231 towards the Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice Technology. Students must have successfully passed the Commission’s comprehensive certification examination. Students must have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training since 1985.

BLET for Students with Previous Military Training or Police Training

Do you have prior experience in the military, or with law enforcement training from another state? We offer specialized pathways through our BLET program to meet North Carolina requirements.

Transitioning military service members

NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission will work with service members who have military police experience to obtain certification to become a law enforcement officer within the state of North Carolina. Review the General Assembly of North Carolina House Bill 595 for more information.

Transferring officers from other states

Certified officers wishing to transfer to a law enforcement position within North Carolina should review instructions from the North Carolina Department of Justice.
