8th Grade Graduation Speeches

It is because of the unforgettable fourth grade year you provided to me that I chose you to be here tonight. It is also largely because of my fourth grade year that I will soon become a valedictorian of the class of 2017.

High school is always considered some of the best years of life. Students live with their families, see their friends almost everyday, and participate in the activities they love with the people they love. It has enough freedom for the student to decide how hard they will try, but it also has just the right amount of restrictions that parents can step in to make the student work. High school also gives students many opportunities to succeed and keep letting them try again if they fail. For example, a math teacher may allow a student to retake two test throughout a semester, but if the student proves that they are trying in the class then the teacher may allow them to retake a few more tests. Middle school to high school is a big jump from not only school to school but also new people coming into our school, harder academics, sports are now a part of your school life, and a jump from school to school. My thoughts on high school have really changed over the past few weeks. When I first realized that we we're going to be in high school shortly, I got a little freaked out. Although I know alot of high schoolers and specific people that go to West I still feel overwhelmed by the fact that i'm going from a 600 person school to a 1,200+ person school. For the longest time I felt if high school would be the hardest part of my life and getting accustomed to the new setting would be hard for me, I thought the people there we're mean and

Dear administrators, teachers, parents, beloved friends, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 8th grade graduation. It’s a pleasure to be standing in front of you today on this beautiful day to express the happiness we all feel.

Changing schools is a huge adjustment, especially between middle school and high school. Everything is new, and that can be a scary adjustment. However, if one looks past the numerous differences, there are many remaining similarities. You worked your way to the top as the big bad eighth graders but now you have once again fallen to the bottom with more grades above you since primary school. One works towards very different things in each school and once you are in high school schedules fill up to an unimaginable amount. Say good-bye to freetime because it is rare. However once one recognizes some of the more familiar things from before they can be a great comfort. In both schools you experience new freedoms both inside and outside of the actual school as well as having higher expectations.

Everyone has heard or been told, “high school is what you make of it.” High school is in fact what you make of it, but it is also the time of great change in everybody. Entering grade nine you still feel like a kid, your post-secondary and career choices are far from top priority. However, by grade twelve we become more mature and grow into young adults. Personally looking back to my grade nine self and comparing her to my grade twelve self of today, I am able to see changes in my character, my athletics and my goals.

Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During high school they are challenged with real-world challenges that help them transition into adulthood. The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence.

Time, like always, blew by. Middle school brought its own challenges, as it does for all kids. You struggled with the person you wanted to be, made hard choices about what you valued. Dad and I tried to guide you, but you made decisions on your own, and they were always the right ones. We could clearly see that you were a natural leader and persistent worker. High school only cemented those traits about you, and then, amazingly, you were again ready to move to a different world.

High school, four of the most interesting years of life. It is a time to find yourself and figure out who you are and what you want your place in this world to be. During this process comes friendships that build because of alike interests and beliefs. From freshman year at the bottom of the totem pole, all the way to senior year, being the top dog of your school. It is such a great feeling knowing that those three years of hard work build up to essentially a grand finale. Many big changes happen as you grow older in high school. From summer camps, to starts of a new year. From homecoming week, to the end of sport seasons. From in school privileges to coming to and leaving from school early, and finally Graduation. This grand finale year has some similarities and some differences and as you read on you will see what I mean.

Middle school was a drastic change in my life. In elementary school I didn't have to worry about wearing makeup or what I wore but once I entered middle school, it all changed. The classes became harder, the testing became more frequent, the teachers started to care less, and having to change classes every hour and a half was very confusing.

High school…what is there to say about it? Many would tell you that it’s like a jungle of sorts, others say it changes you. Many students including myself, go through all four years of high school setting goals and standards for themselves after they graduate. Your teachers and your councilors tell you that it’s a bumpy road but “you’ll get through it”. Well I can personally tell you that high school was none of that.

To me high school and middle school are two very different stages of school life. Some people might think going to a new school, making new friends, and adjusting to the bigger community is easy, but for other people it can be hard. My transition from middle school to high school was very different from what I imagined it to be.

I remember being an anxious eighth grader thinking about starting my freshman year of high school. We went from being at the top of the school to being at the bottom of a new one. All of our middle school teachers always told us about how our high school teachers wont “hold our hands” and how we will be on our own. Being in high school is completely different than being in elementary school and middle school. Its almost like each year we have more and more freedom but more responsibility.

Hi, Mrs. Anderson! It's Tabbi and I was wondering about the eighth grade graduation video. Every year Mrs. James made a video that included baby pictures and other pictures from there time at Norwood. So, with Mrs. James no longer at Norwood will the graduating class still get a video? If no one is making a video who could I get in contact with to see if I could make the video. I would love to volunteer my time to make a video they will enjoy for many years to come.

(sound alarm) Don't you just love that sound. Ahhh the sound of school calling at 6 in the morning. When you start a new school or a new grade many emotions are most likely running through your head which stress' you out. But when you get to high school it's a whole new beginning and experience. The overall experience of high school is pretty neat if you asked me. The freedom is nice, although there is a lot of stress, the people in the hallway can be disturbing, and you make all new sorts of friends and enemy's.
