Nicholas Brendon Walks Off 'Dr. Phil' Set: He 'Went for the Jugular'

Nicholas Brendon‘s visit to The Dr. Phil Show ended with the actor walking off the set before the interview was completed.

The troubled Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday that he did not appreciate the line of questioning he received during a taping of the show.

“My illnesses and addictions are a daily struggle for me, and I am committed to working on them for the rest of my life,” Brendon wrote. “A big part of that is focusing on positivity. I m the first to admit I ve messed up, a lot, and I ve hurt people I care about and who care about me.”

Brendon has been arrested three times this year and entered rehab for alcoholism, substance abuse and depression issues in June. He acknowledged “all the good Dr. Phil has done for people, famous or not” and praised the show for turning lives around. However, he did not feel comfortable during the taping.

“When I was in that seat, I felt that Dr. Phil went for the jugular, talking about some of my recent mistakes, with no build up,” Brendon wrote. “I felt that he wanted me to lay the darkest parts of myself on national TV right from the start, and I m not willing to do that.”

He went on to write that because of contractual obligations, he could not reveal aspects of the taping, but he promised to as soon as he was able.

In a statement to PEOPLE, a rep for Dr. Phil said: “Nicholas Brendon appeared on DR. Phil today. Unfortunately, he chose to disengage before a dialogue with Dr. Phil ever began. There was no drama, he simply chose to leave and did so in a respectful manner. His family and associates remained and participated fully and productively. Dr. Phil has nothing but the highest respect for Nicholas and wishes him the best in his quest for physical/mental health and sobriety, and stands ready to assist him in any way possible. The episode was completed as scheduled. An airdate will be announced in the future.”

Brendon is best known for playing Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1996 to 2003, and he also appeared on Criminal Minds. His arrests this year were on charges of public intoxication, grand theft and criminal mischief. In February, he split from his wife of five months, Moonda Tee.
