An NYPD officer was sucker-punched by a man outside of his Bronx stationhouse on Tuesday, police said.
The officer was assaulted outside the 40th Precinct at about 3:50 p.m., authorities said.
Video footage of the attack was posted to Twitter by NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, showing the man walk up and sock the officer before he was subdued by several cops.
The officer was treated by EMS on scene for bruising and swelling to his lip, police said.
When the suspect was apprehended, police allegedly found crack cocaine in his pants pocket, authorities said.
“Police work is unpredictable and dangerous as we saw today when a violent criminal assaulted an officer in front of a station house in the #Bronx,” Monahan tweeted.
“Fortunately, our great cops weren’t seriously hurt and they did a tremendous job arresting the man so he can’t hurt any New Yorker.”
The man was charged with assault, possession of a controlled substance and harassment, police said.
