Netflix has released the first trailer for upcoming movie Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.

The comedy stars Jerry Seinfeld, who also directed and produced the movie, and is about a 1960s battle between cereal companies Kellogg’s and Post to produce the next big breakfast product.

First announced in 2021 and described as a "tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen", the film is inspired by a joke that Seinfeld told in his stand-up years previously.

He also posted on X back in 2018 about a desire to make a film like this, writing: "At one point I was thinking about an invention of the Pop-Tart movie. Imagine the drunk on sugar-power Kellogg’s cereal culture of the mid-60s in Battle Creek, MI. That's a vibe I could work with."

Well now that ambition has well as truly come to life, with a voiceover in the trailer setting the scene: "In the early 1960s, the American morning was defined by milk and cereal and the two undisputed giants of the cereal world were Kellogg’s and Post."

The new clip shows a TV announcement that Post has invented a "shelf-stable, fruit pastry breakfast product", with Kellogg’s seeing the news and racing to try and do the same, with a raucous set of events to follow as the battle for breakfast supremacy takes place.

The entertaining trailer also showcases the incredibly starry cast that joins Seinfeld in the upcoming movie, which comes to Netflix this May.

This includes Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Amy Schumer (Trainwreck), Max Greenfield (New Girl), James Marsden (Jury Duty), Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock).

Also involved in the film is Hugh Grant, who in the trailer is seen dressing up in costume as iconic cereal mascot Tony the Tiger.

Seinfeld recently spoke about casting the Love Actually star in this bizarre role and said: "That was the greatest part of the whole thing, honestly. Because I am a crazy fan of his. [Grant] asked me if it matters that Tony the Tiger has a British accent. I told him: 'No, who cares?'"

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story arrives on Netflix on May 3.
