Welcome to the U.S. Naval Academy Weather Team!

The U.S. Naval Academy Weather Team (NAWT) was founded in 2016 and operates under the Oceanography Club (ECA).  The NAWT is comprised of both midshipmen student forecasters and Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Department faculty meteorologists. The NAWT provides an opportunity for interested midshipmen to participate in daily, operational weather forecasting under the supervision of the USNA Command Forecaster, Meteorologist Alexander R. Davies.  Weather forecasting is a "mesoscale" project based learning activity that build upon the geophysical course work in the Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Department through engaging, real-world  applications. The mission of the NAWT is to:

• Provide midshipmen with an opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts taught in class to solve real-world problems.
• Serve as a supplemental source of timely weather information as a courtesy to the U.S. Naval Academy, NSA-Annapolis, and the broader Annapolis community in support of weather-sensitive events and daily operations. Official forecasts are issued by the National Weather Service.*

*Final forecasts are vetted and issued by either faculty meteorologists in the Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Department at USNA or Midshipmen student forecasters under the direct supervision of the faculty meteorologists. The forecasts provided are NOT official U.S. Navy or U.S. Government weather forecasts; the forecasts and products should not be confused with the official U.S. Navy weather information from the Fleet Weather Center or the official U.S. Government forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
