In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

    Great museum
One of the most beautiful natural history museums I have visited (and I've been to a few). Informative tact accompanying the items, and a wide variety of themes each with their own room. We could have spent hours there if it hadn't closed three hours after our arrival.

    Wonderful displays
We went to the Natural History Museum primarily because of my husband's love of rocks and minerals. He is a rockhound and has been collecting since he was a young boy! The rock/gem exhibit was awesome! I even loved it and I'm not a rockhound! Very interesting specimens. We spent a little time in the other parts of the museum (ie dinosaurs, meteorites, etc) but had to move on due to time contraints....and the fact my husband spent so much time looking at the rock exhibits!

    Great for kids
Beautiful building inside and out. Very good collection of animal and mineral exhibits but the dinosaur exhibits were lacking. Very hot inside as there was no cooling and disappointed because not only the dino show was only in German, most descriptions of the exhibits were solely in German too.

    Fantastic 🔥
First I need to mark that, if you are visiting Vienna, then you should leave 3 hours minimum for this Great place - sure just if you have children or a person who likes to see, discover and gain knowledge about many things on earth. From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that this museum was not just about history but also about having a great time. We couldn't resist the urge to take funny pictures and pretend to be historical figures. It was like stepping back in time and becoming part of the exhibit! We explored the interactive displays and had a blast playing with the props. We dressed in period costumes, striking funny poses, and capturing hilarious moments that will always bring a smile to our faces. The museum's staff were amicable and even joined in on the fun, suggesting poses and taking pictures for us. Overall, our visit to the History Museum of Vienna was educational and an absolute blast. It's a place where learning and laughter go hand in hand. If you're looking for a museum experience that combines knowledge and enjoyment, this is the perfect destination.😄📸

    Amazing place
Had a long weekend in Vienna. Weather was incredibly cold so popped in to visit this museum. Fantastic museum with some great exhibits For me though, the building is sensational. The architecture is stunning and the internal features are incredible Loved it

Confused by mix of fake and real taxidermy
The building and its interiors are gorgeous. Crytals and stone collections are impressive; the collection is huge and well curated for anyone interested. Can’t say the same for the taxidermy and dinosaur collection. For some strange reason, the museum mixes man-made taxidermy with real ones so it can get confusing. Would appreciate if they just kept to displaying real pieces.

Our first visit to the Naturhistorisches Museum
We knew even before entering this huge museum that we could not see everything in it in one visit. On this first visit, we saw the vast collection of minerals, stones, gemstones and meteorites! We also visited the halls that show the history of Earth and the fossils... Those fossils are amazing, especially the size of the bones is mindblowing. But when they are assembled in a skeleton, only then can the true size and ferocity of the animals be observed. We continued our visit to the halls that show the evolution during the last ice age and prehistory. But after seeing the famous Venus of Willendorf, we simply had to leave... Of course, we will return!

Firstly the grounds and building are stunning. The exhibits are good and varied, everything from stones to ant eaters. There’s a nice cafe on site and lots of other museums around it if you want more. Would recommend for couples and families alike. From memory it was good value too, entry was around 7 euros for an adult.

There are so many good museums in Vienna. I was grateful to have chosen this one. The entry way and majestic stairways with enormous murals are visually stunning, I doubt any of my photos do them justice. I tried to wander most of the museum, but it was really my first area, the Egyptian collection that stuck with me. It was enormous with lots of antiquities in beautiful condition. As you may have read, they also have a lovely restaurant on an upper level “under the dome”. The restaurant was very busy even in the mid afternoon and I waited in a small line for service, but it was a great break.

This museum offers one of the biggest exhibitions I have ever seen. It is beautiful and interactive, providing lots of different areas of interest.
It has beautiful mineral and animal sections, but my personal favourite was the human evolution.
What made me an impression was the signs next to some of the animal species saying how endangered they are. This, for me, is very important, as it provides the much needed awareness of our human impact on our planet while being not overwhelming.
Almost everything is in English and I found the audio guide not of much need, although, it provides additional information. Just keep in mind that the audio guide is €6 which is quite expensive.
If you plan to go there, I would recommend to go during a weekday in the morning, as it is less crowded.
Also, it has easy access to toilets + for people with additional needs. And it had a lovely cafe with food at the centre of the museum.

Going to a natural history museum is a really good decision. Offers an excellent exhibit from prehistory to the present. I was amazed by the minerals, to see the origin of life on earth. From dinosaur to the present animal specimens. A special impression was made by the moon exhibition. Negative part was a ticket sales person who does not deserve to work with people. if I did not been persistent I would not entered inthe museum because he claimed that I need to have a PDF version of the tickets purchased online, although the certificate stated that the mobile version was also valid.

Great museum not only for kids but also for adults.+++interactive ,video presentations, take funny pictures that are sent to you for free to your email. The only disadvantage is that not all the exhibits had English presentation/tag to read.It takes at least 2hours to see everything.

In this museum EVERY sort of animals, minerals, stones, insects,... can be easily found. Huge number of specious are gathered together to make an impressive exhibition. The building itself is also a marvelous historical palace in where lots of paintings and sculptures exist.
the most interesting part for kids is the show of dinosaurs which is particularly amazing.

The Natural Hisyory Museum in Vienna is a great place to spend a few hours. It is a lit bigger than expected and covers a few floors. There is a great collection of minerals, meteorites, animals etc. The building itself is beautiful and there is a cafe at the top of the building. Well worth a visit.

This museum is in the palace building on the right side of Maria Theresa Statue when you face the statue from Ringstrasse. The museum has delightful collections of the items typically found in natural history museums, which would certainly please children. But this museum also has an impressive collection of gem stones which can please adults as well. When we visited this museum last September, we liked the layout of the displays as well as the quality of displays. Unlike huge American Museum of Natural History in New York City, which intimidates the visitors who have to navigate through complex hallways to go from one display area to another, this museum in Vienna is small enough and its displays are logically arranged in proper sequence, making it so easy to navigate the display areas. This museum is highly recommended to the families with children.

When the kids were younger I took them to these types of places and they loved the Natural History Museum In New York a few years back. This was a different experience as they are older now and really appreciated the history and detail behind the exhibits especially some of the marine life specimens and Venus of Willendorf. The age of this relic is mind blowing. The dinosaur robot is also amazing.
We also had cake and coffee in the cafe, which is beautiful.

The museum displays all kinds of animals that can be found all over the world. Here you can also learn about minerals, nature and even the first moon landing.

Bring your children along and they will enjoy it since there are some interactive areas. There is also a cafe on the top floor if you need to take a rest for a while. it's worth a visit.
