The premiere of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is just around the corner, the film that will mark the end of the current DCU and will give way to the new universe of James Gunn and Peter Safran, and Jason Momoa is confident that he will be part of this new beginning.

In May 2021, after the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery was official, David Zaslav took over as CEO of the company, and began to implement a series of new strategies and changes, much of which had to do with the major franchises of the studio, including DC. Zaslav wanted a complete reboot for the cinematographic and television universe built on characters from the comic book company. More than a year later, in October 2022, Safran and Gunn took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios, confirming that Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and the Aquaman sequel would be the last projects in the previous canon.

And while most of the actors from the previous universe will not return for the reboot, some will have the chance of returning, either with the same characters as Xolo Mariduena, or with a different one, as could be the case of Jason Momoa. And it seems that the actor is confident about his future in the DCU. While there are many people who still believe he is the ideal casting as Aquaman, there are just as many who would love to see him take on the equally appealing role of Lobo - something that has been rumored now for more than a year.

Speaking with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, the actor talked about what will happen to him after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, teasing he is almost certainly returning in the franchise, but in what capacity is yet to be revealed:

"I mean, this is kind of, like, the end of this DC Universe. Unless, you know... I mean, it's... Things have happened before. So, I guess if people like. But, yeah, there's... There'll always be a place for me at DC."

In the sequel, again directed by James Wan, Arthur Curry is a very different man than he was in the first part. Now he is a husband, a father and a king, so he has a lot to deal with and also a lot to lose. And that is precisely why Black Manta's threat is so powerful, because his great enemy wants to destroy everything Arthur loves.

Unlike the first film, this new entry will not focus on Arthur and his relationship with Mera, but on his bond with Orm, whom he must go look for in order to save Atlantis together. Something Wan has been planning to explore for a long time, and it seems Momoa has too.

In the interview, the actor confessed that he also collaborated to develop the plot of the sequel:

"Well, I mean, the first one was... I had a big... This is really cool because when I finished the first one, I was really pumped and I came back in and I wrote a treatment, and went in and I pitched it. And I just wanted to think of it like the idea... Because now he's a father, he's married, he's the king. Like, he was a slacker in the first one. Like, he didn't want to do anything about it. Now he's got all these... Like, now he's like, 'I don't know what to do.' And you basically get to go on that journey with him, and you end up finding out that it's him and his brother, and it becomes this journey that they go on, and there are differences in how they save the planet."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to arrive in theaters on December 22, 2023
