Based on Homer's "Iliad," this epic portrays the battle between the ancient kingdoms of Troy and Sparta. While visiting Spartan King Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), Trojan prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) falls for Menelaus' wife, Helen (Diane Kruger), and takes her back to Troy. Menelaus' brother, King Agamemnon (Brian Cox), having already defeated every army in Greece, uses his brother's fury as a pretext to declare war against Troy, the last kingdom preventing his control over the Aegean Sea.

In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator.

... it’s hard to take the cataclysmic events of this ancient war seriously, as it is entirely predicated on an unconvincing romantic gesture of a prince with the impulse control of a spoiled brat and the political consideration of a cat in heat.

First off....nobody is making any movie completely accurate dating back to the B.C era of time. So ignore the critics who imagine they know things that nobody on this planet truly knows. That being said it's an excellent movie. I'm not sure pretty boy brad pitt was the best choice for the star role. But they made it work! As a movie, disregarding the historical aspect.....it was very entertaining and action packed. The only true downside to the movie in my opinion, is Brad pitt....just felt like in some of the scenes he was trying to model instead of act lol or maybe he just isn't good at making a mean/strong facial expressions lol Cuz when I look back.....I don't think I've ever seen a film where he plays a mean or violent role.

This masterpiece is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Fiercely Passionate, with an outstanding musical soundtrack. With actors immersed in their roles. The scenery is breathtaking with the mist of the aroma ancient life. You could almost believe that you have taken a jump in time. You feel every moment and every second. Regardless of the critiques and possible improvements argued. This movie does exactly what it is suppose to do by leaving it's imprint in the clay of time.

"Troy" is a very good action blockbuster. As a movie, I really enjoyed this one. It is a movie that is on the longer side, but it quickly got me engaged and continuously entertained me with spectacle. There are memorable big-scale battles and exhilarating one-on-one fight sequences throughout this movie. I do feel it is a bit on the silly side at times, but for the most part, I was invested in the characters and the conflict the movie presented. Overall, it feels like an old-school blockbuster which was a bit refreshing and I think if you watch the movie for entertainment value, it features plenty of it.

One of those movies I find myself drawn back to watching every few years and with each viewing seems to get better. You don't see this period covered much in cinema which is one of the elements I like about it. The costumes are great, the battle scenes great, and its a very visual pleasing movie. Peter O'Toole is outstanding in this role.
