Three days after WFAN announced the end of “Moose & Maggie” as the station’s midday show, one half of the show addressed the shakeup, without mentioning the other half.
On his weekly Sunday morning NFL show on WFAN — the first time he was back on the air since the news broke — Marc Malusis started off by talking about the decision to replace him and partner Maggie Gray with Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney. But while Malusis thanked a variety of people from his bosses to sponsors to listeners, Gray was not included in his remarks.
“Management made the decision to go with a new midday show, which is tough, but I do want to thank management — old and new, Chris [Oliviero], Spike [Eskin], Mark Chernoff — for the opportunity that I was afforded the last two years to do the midday show,” Malusis said. “I was the last to know, which is hard, but right now all I can control is what I do and how I respond, and I will. I want to thank everyone who reached out to me over the last few days. It was overwhelming. The love and support means more than you guys will ever know. I have not gotten back to everybody, but give me time, I will.
“It’s been a crazy last 72 hours. I want to thank my audience for their support. After all, I would not be in the position that I am doing my thing here in New York City without you.”
Malusis said he will continue his NFL show on Sundays with former Giant David Diehl and will “figure some things out” with WFAN executives.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone out there that’s listened to me over the years,” Malusis said. “I’ve been here 21 years. WFAN has been my life and WFAN means the world to me.”
Gray, meanwhile, has already landed a new show as she will host an afternoon drive program with Andrew Perloff on CBS Sports Radio.
Malusis and Gray started their show together on WFAN in early 2020.
“I’ve got nothing but love for Moose,” Gray said Friday while appearing on WFAN’s “Boomer & Gio” to announce her next move. “He and I did a great show for two years. We got thrown together, obviously the pandemic then hit. It was tough to build a show during those circumstances, but I’ve got nothing but love for Moose.”
