About
An oasis in the heart of the city of Montréal, the Biodôme offers an immersive visit through five ecosystems of the Americas where animals and plants can be observed. It is one of the few places in the world to reproduce so faithfully the complexity of the natural environment and the interactions between animal and plant species. Summer and winter alike, the Biodôme is the perfect family outing!

Neighbourhood: Olympic Park & Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa)
Named for the Olympic Stadium complexes built for the 1976 games, the Olympic Park and the surrounding neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa) make up an invigorated area dedicated to "Space for Life." Around the Olympic Village's arenas and stadiums, Rue Sherbrooke welcomes exploration of its sculpture gardens decorated in the works of Jean-Paul Riopelle and its museum culture headed by the historical Château Dufresne. Maisonneuve Park offers interactive experiences at its bio-dome, insectarium, planetarium, and botanical gardens. For a change of scene, the gentrified space along Rue Ontario Est is packed with the city's newest, edgiest cafes, where an imaginative, youthful crowd sips foamy cappuccinos. A visit here is incomplete without stepping into the vast halls of the Maisonneuve Market, with flower stalls, wine depots, and local produce.

- whinfellwandererSheffield, United Kingdom226 contributionsGreat place for all not just familiesGreat for all ages and very popular with young children especially the penguins. The 4 habitats were all interesting and it is a light and airy space. The vegetarian wrap from the Caterina restaurant was tasty and their is dedicated seating to eat your own picnic tooVisited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten June 28, 2023
- FlutegardenCollegeville, Pennsylvania204 contributionsNice but needs better traffic control. This place is nice and it’s great to see animals in their natural environment. Our favorite was the polar region and seeing the penguins. The problem with this place is there is a traffic control problem. They make you purchase i timed ticket but they doesn’t help as it’s overcrowded. It’s hard to move through some exhibits and see anything. They shouldn’t allow strollers and especially wagons. There were plenty of pamphlets in both English and French when you scan your ticket.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 6, 2023
- fm0072018Canterbury, United Kingdom157 contributionsBiodome - really worth a visit especially for kidsThe Biodome is easily reached from the Viau metro station (green line). There are four different habitats inside the Dome including a tropical region. Each area has animals and birds which all the children there seemed to really enjoy. It really is an attraction for people with children although adults will enjoy it as well. You can buy a ticket just for the Dome or get an annual ticket which covers the Biodome, Planatarium, Insectarium and Botanical Gardens which are all on the same complex (as well as the Biosphere which is in nearer to the city centre). Even if you are only going to visit whilst you are on holiday it’s worth buying the annual ticket and visiting all the attractions over a few days. Highly recommended.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 7, 2023
- Polo MoraillesSan Diego, California110 contributionsZoo-like dome with 4 biomes but way too many kidsLocated right next to the Olympic stadium and the botanical garden, this Biodome is great for families. That being said, there were way too many kids and families for the size limitations. The arctic section has playful and energetic penguins. The jungle section is really humid and has pretty parrots to look at. The temperate and forests climates had the least to see with not many animals. It's like a zoo with a cool giftshop.Visited July 2023Written August 7, 2023
- codgirlOttawa, Canada72 contributionsOver digitised now days.I used to love the biodôme, it is still a fun hour to hour and a half of animal spotting. However, like the other espace pour la vie museums, the experience is made much worse nowadays by the lack of signs and the need to use an app to get any information. For our group the appp would only work on one phone(constantly closed when you tried to do anything on the others). And on the phone where it kind of worked, we couldn't find all the animals and certain features only worked sporadically.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 8, 2023
- Heather19 contributionsWorth a visitWe arrived at the biodome and had to buy tickets for a scheduled time slot. We waited over two hours but it was raining outside so it gave us something to do inside. You can buy food and drinks there. The biodome was fairly quick to go through, under an hour, but beautiful and the animals seem content.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten August 19, 2023
- Nick - The RI Food DudeRhode Island84 contributionsNice value, loved seeing the penguinsAwesome experience for all ages! I’m from Rhode Island in the US and $22 per person is a really good deal. You get to see a good amount of animals in the tropical forest, but my favorite section was definitely seeing the penguins in the arctic environment. The structure from the outside is visibly appealing with a cool view of the Olympic Tower. The staff was very friendly and the metro station is a short walk from just outside the grounds.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 14, 2023
- Nico Samneil Sy SaladoNewport, Vermont756 contributionsBiodome montrealIt is amazing how this place is maintained that almost everything is real. Although not as big as a zoo but a family could surely enjoy this. All animals here are not found on granby zoo so it is not redundant and boring. There is a self checkout kiosk so you dont need to wait in line. Gift shop and cafeteria is also inside. Penguins are so cute!!!!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 21, 2023
- Gabe HNorthern Virginia, Virginia178 contributionsSplendid way to visit the arctic and tropical climates in one afternoonFour separate climates: 1. Arctic/Antarctic penguins, puffins, and other Arctic / Antarctic birds 2. Tropical: Plants, birds, and animals from the tropical regions. 3 & 4: Temperate: Plants, animals, and fish. Excellent visit, well laid out, handled the Saturday crowd well (they have timed entry tickets) We did this paired with the Montreal Botanical Garden.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2023
- TraceyKariong, Australia29 contributionsInteresting and EnjoyableThis is a fun way to spend an hour or so, wandering through the four different ecosystems to view the plants and animals in each. The penguins and puffins were adorable and we enjoyed watching the tamarins, the raccoons and the capybaras. I only wish I could have magicked both the river otters and beavers awake as they were the animals I was most keen to see, being Australian and having neither at home. We found it easy to get to via metro from old Montreal and it was not too crowded.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023

One of the best exhibitions we have ever seen. uniquely displayed, interesting and informative, a wonderful way to learn about our eco systems. Well worth the time and money. it was so good, we'd do it again the next time we visit montreal.

First let me say that I walk with a cane and there was do much walking that I needed a wheel chair. My girlfriend had to push so that really dampered the stop for her.
My son in law had to park.quite a distance away.
The majority of my group seemed to enjoy the animal displays in various ecosystems.
This is really for younger kids and adult naturists.
We wanted to go to the planetarium at added cost, but we would have to wait an hour for the next show
Instead we ate some mediocre food at an outdoor food court.
What else can I add, a tourist trap

My husband and I stopped here in Montreal. It has you viewing various climate regions around the world and the animals that live there. My favorite was the penguins. With the price for admission and parking, I was a bit disappointed considering it only took an hour to see everything and it did not have as many animals as I expected. We did like that it offered a vegan restaurant.

Very short line. Amazing to see all the ecosystems, especially the arctic one. We were done in a hour, and had time for the botanical garden nearby. Only problem is that tickets were a little expensive, but were worth it.

I wasn't expecting to see so many animals in the biodome. I was thinking it would be like the Eden Project in Cornwall and be all plant based. However, the animals appeared to have plenty of space and be living in a suitable environment so it was enjoyable.

We took our 11 year old granddaughter and had a wonderful time. We skated and sledded on Mont Royal, ate at the Time Out Market, visited the fabulous Biodome with its delicious all vegetarian cafe, went to Marche Jean Talon where we bought fabulous cheese and fresh food as well as maple products and we went to a Québécois square dance. It even snowed beautifully for 2 days! It was a great trip.

Having recently retired, I thought that visiting my home town would be a great place to start this next chapter in life. I was very disappointed, other than the penguins, there really wasn’t much to see, no atmosphere at all! Perhaps self guided tours with a headset explaining what to look for in the displays, and a brief description of the animals found in those places, their habits, etc would help. Maybe even feeding hours would be interesting. Not worth the money.

How long should I plan the visit

If you have small children then allow an hour to 90 minutes, otherwise an hour will be plenty.
How big are the lockers and how secure are they? Wondering if my partner and I's backpacks/luggage will fit. Also wondering how much it is to rent a locket at the biodome without the membership or if you need a membership to rent one?

I got this from their website "Lockers are available at the underground level for coats and accessories at $2 per locker (single opening lockers). Please note that the cloakroom is free for groups (subject to availability)"

Bonjour / Hi ! Est-ce possible d’éviter la section des reptiles lors de notre visite ? Is it possible to avoid the reptile section when visiting ?

Bonne visite!

does the biodome will be open for next week?
It is likely to open in Dec 2019 as per the official website.
when will you be open? I especially miss the penguins but only want to book a trip if your facility is up open to the public

Bonjour ,

Bonne visite
