One culture that sticks out to me and was something that for me is very unusual is the Chinese culture. Based on one’s his or hers ancestors people in China differentiate their culture in language, population, religion, and food.

Throughout Chinese history there has been three main religions or philosophies that were practiced by all within the empire. These include Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Wu-Ch’Êng-Ên is able to depict all of these religions in his novel which is considered a traditional Chinese folk tale “A journey to the West” or also known as “Monkey.” This folk novel depicts the main character Monkey and his journey through life and then later including that of a Buddhist monk Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy. All are considered to be examples of human characteristics and flaws of human character, yet all are on a pilgrimage which will ultimately transform their character. Each journey and section of the novel incorporates different aspects of each of the religions which eventually prove to be intertwined in order to attain success and balance.
Monkey King is a most well-known Chinese fictional character existing in the novel Journey to the West written by Wu Cheng’en. Monkey King is one of the three disciples who not only has vivid and human-like personalities but also has magical powers. I feel a strong relatability between the fictional character and me.
This book called American Born Chinese was actually one of the best comics I have ever read. I got confused by how many characters were introduced in the book, but by the end of the story all of them had some kind of connection. The first character introduced in the comic was called “The Monkey King of the Flower-Fruit Mountain.” He flourished an awful lot in this comic book. In the beginning he thought he was a very powerful deity just because of how many disciplines he had fulfilled and by the end when he completed his test of virtue he learned to help others and be caring. The first scene I want to talk about was when the monkey king went to a dinner party full of deities. He was denied entry because he had no shoes on his feet and he began to leave but then he

China is a huge counties with population of 1.3 billion. The culture of the North and the South are different. Therefore, it would be unrealistic to assume that Chinese people have ( Kim, Wan, and Pan) completely homogenous attitudes or behaviors. Even Chinese subcultures have many commonalities which including the use of the same Chinese characters, worship of the same ancestral spirits, a pride in Sinocentrism, a heavy influence of Confucianism that stresses family order, respect, and relationship harmony (Fan, 2000), a willingness to accept unequal power distributions in society, high integration of groups, and a tendency to avoid uncertainty to a greater extent than other cultural groups (Hofstede, 1980).
