The college offers four academic centers off campus that focus on advocacy as well as research, and are responsible for major contributions to groundbreaking initiatives and policy changes.

Community is an important force in the life and history of the college. Representatives of the local community participated actively in the decision-making, planning and process of founding the school, and even elected the first president of the college themselves.
