Profile
A prolific batting all-rounder in the domestic circuit, Maurice Foster was a big name in the regional tournaments of West Indies. His exploits eventually got him into the national team during the 1970s with moderate returns. That he crossed fifty only twice during his 14 Test career speaks volumes about his underperformance, especially for a player who had 17 First-class centuries and 35 fifties, an overall tally of over 6000 runs at a brilliant average of 45. These were exceptional stats and Foster couldn't replicate these at the highest level. He did have his moments, notably his only Test ton at his home ground against Australia was a masterpiece while his other 50-plus knock, a fine 99 was also an innings that showed glimpses of his caliber. As his form continued to dip, he was phased out from the national side. Apart from being a skilled cricketer, Foster was a master of table tennis as well, having even been West Indies champion at one point of time.
