After writing his most recent book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, Bill Gates took part in Reddit's Ask Me Anything campaign for the ninth time. "You can ask me about climate change, Covid-19, or anything else," Gates said. The thread quickly gained more than 13,000 questions, and many were geared toward a younger audience.

"What's one piece of advice you would give to a 19-year-old?" someone asked. In reply, Gates emphasized climate change education. "You should learn about climate change. It doesn't need to be a full-time thing," he explained. "Pick the job you feel you can contribute to but…have goals that aren't just about your own success."

"There's been exciting progress in the more than 15 years that I've been learning about energy and climate change," Gates shared. "What we need now is a plan that turns all this momentum into practical steps to achieve our big goals," the billionaire posted. More questions soon arose about technology's connection to the world.

Another user asked: "What niche technology do you believe could play a significant role in the future in the battle against climate change?" Gates explained, many technologies such as "Synthetic meat, energy storage, and new ways of making building materials" are needed…"We want to be open to ideas that seem wild," he wrote.

Gates answered many of the several thousand questions posted to the Reddit AMA platform. Some were focused on electric automobiles, while others asked specifically about action steps that younger members of society can begin taking. Gates answered many, but this wasn't the first time he used a digital platform to share advice.

On April 18, 2020, Bill Gates was joined by his wife Melinda during the "One World: Together At Home" event presented by Global Citizen. The digital special was a global broadcast held in support of frontline healthcare workers as well as the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.
