Five Mansfield ISD campuses will soon be welcoming new leaders.

Matthew Brown is now the principal of Summit High School. He was previously the principal at Donna Shepard Leadership Academy. Brown has 20 years of experience in education. He has held roles as a teacher, assistant principal and principal at neighboring districts before coming to Mansfield ISD in 2017.

He earned his Bachelor of Music from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Arts in Educational/Administration and Supervision from University of Phoenix.

Brown will begin his new role in July. He will be replacing Todd Taylor, who announced his retirement.

Derek Gammon is the new principal of Anna May Daulton Elementary School. He is a familiar face to the campus because he has been the school’s assistant principal for the past two years.

The Texas native has served in education for 12 years. He joined Mansfield ISD in 2014 as a teacher before becoming an assistant principal.

Gammon holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a minor in special education. He later earned his Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University.

He is replacing Alycen Phan, who is now the district’s director of early learning.

Trenell Scott has been named the principal of The Innovative Learning Academy at Elizabeth Smith. She has been dedicated to the field of education for more than 23 years with teaching experience in general and special education for students in prekindergarten through eighth grade.

Scott has been an educator in Mansfield ISD for the past 14 years, and she spent the last four years serving as the assistant principal of Glenn Harmon Elementary School. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from The University of Memphis and earned a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas at Dallas.

Scott is taking over for Lea Boiles, who left the position to become the principal of MISD’s new Alma Martinez Intermediate School.

Sheryl Suchsland will be the first principal of Brenda Norwood Elementary School, which will open in fall 2021. She was most recently the principal of Louise Cabaniss Academy of Young Scholars.

Suchsland has served in education for 23 years and began her teaching career in North Texas as a sixth and eighth grade science teacher. She moved to Mansfield ISD in 2003 to teach at the middle and intermediate grade levels before becoming an assistant principal at D.P. Morris Elementary School.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She later obtained her Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University.

Kelsey Smith will be serving as the new principal of Louise Cabaniss Academy of Young Scholars. Her official start date is April 12. She will be replacing Sheryl Suchsland, who is now the principal of the district’s new Norwood Elementary School.

Smith has 10 years of experience in education and most recently was an elementary school principal at a neighboring district. During her career, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.

Smith completed her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Tarleton State University. She also holds a Master of Educational Leadership from American College of Education.
