Martin Scorsese is set to both host and produce a new religious documentary series for Fox Nation. Titled Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, the eight-part series will chronicle the lives of (you guessed it) eight different saints and will debut on November 16th.
Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints will cover the stories of figures like Joan of Arc and John the Baptists through re-enactments and on-camera discussions between Scorsese and historical experts. Created by Matti Leshem, the show features direction from Elizabeth Chomko and writing by Kent Jones. With the announcement, Scorsese joins the likes of Kevin Costner, Rob Lowe, and Dan Aykroyd, who have all fronted projects for the Fox News-run streaming service in recent years.
“I’ve lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they faced, the examples they set,” Scorsese said in a statement. “These are stories of eight very different men and women, each of them living through vastly different periods of history and struggling to follow the way of love revealed to them and to us by Jesus’ words in the gospels.”
The Christian focus is nothing new for the Killers of the Flower Moon director, as he’s made it a focal point in many of his past projects, including films like The Last Temptation of Christ and Silence. Reportedly, the film icon will continue his religious exploration with his next screenplay, which is based on Shusaku Endo’s book A Life of Jesus.
The show’s subject matter also fits right in with the rest of Fox Nation’s programming. Originally launched in 2018 as a companion to Fox News, the streaming service has gradually grown to include originally-produced programs geared towards its largely conservative audience.
In non-Fox News news, Scorsese’s latest film Killers of the Flower Moon recently became available for streaming on Apple TV+, which some are calling the best streaming service that nobody’s watching.
