The mascot is named after the founder of the Society of Jesus (known as the Jesuits), St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Marquette’s mascot shares the same first name as that of the lion at Loyola Marymount, the wolf of the University of Scranton and the greyhound at Loyola of Maryland.
Iggy’s name will go on the back of his jerseys worn at events, and will be licensed with the Marquette Spirit Shop.
Marquette changed its nickname to Golden Eagles in 1994, but the mascot has not had a name until now.
