From the Back Cover
Steve Harvey can’t count the number of impressive women he’s met over the years—women who can run a business, keep a household with three kids in tiptop shape, and chair a church group all at the same time. So when it comes to relationships, why can’t these women figure out what makes men tick? According to Steve it’s because they’re asking other women for advice when they should be going directly to the source. In Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, Steve lets women inside the male mindset; introduces concepts such as the ninety-day rule; and reveals the five questions women should ask a potential partner to determine how serious he is.
Sometimes funny, sometimes direct, but always truthful, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man is a book you must read if you want to understand how men think when it comes to relationships, intimacy, and love.

In 1997 he toured as one of the Kings of Comedy alongside Cedric The Entertainer, the late Bernie Mac and D.L. Hughley. The tour’s immediate success led to the taping of one of the most successful comedy films in history – The Original Kings of Comedy – directed by Spike Lee. In 2006 he released Don’t Trip…He Ain’t Through With Me Yet, a clean and family-friendly DVD, unlike any he had ever done before. The Steve Harvey Morning Show has also allowed him to share relationship advice with his listeners through the “Strawberry Letter” segment, where he responds to relationship questions. His first book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment, was released on January 27, 2009. Harvey’s must-have guide gave women the upper hand on dating with the inside scoop on the male mind, understanding his game, and anticipating his moves, with the widely-acclaimed book staying on the New York Times Best Sellers List for 64 weeks. Released on April 20, 2012, the hotly-anticipated Screen Gems/Sony Pictures Entertainment film Think Like A Man quickly made box office history, with audiences packing in sold-out showings at theaters across the country, unseating The Hunger Games’ month-long box office reign at #1. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Gabrielle Union, Kevin Hart, Meagan Good, Romany Malco, Jerry Ferrara and more, Think Like A Man topped the box office as the #1 movie in America its opening weekend, and remained #1 at the box office for a second consecutive weekend, to become the highest-grossing April release with over $60 million in ten days. Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man’s runaway success added another dimension to his life and career, as a sought-after advisor sharing the male perspective. Extending his role, Harvey made multiple appearances on Good Morning America as a contributor on family and relationships and had a monthly relationship column in Essence Magazine; he also launched the dating site LocateYourLove.com.
On December 7, 2010, HarperCollins released Harvey’s highly-anticipated second book, Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find, Keep, and Understand a Man, which quickly became another best seller, debuting at #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers List. The popularity of the Steve Harvey Morning Show and the inspirational advice, comedy segments and book also landed Steve Harvey and his co-hosts on the CENTRIC TV network with The Steve Harvey Project, which premiered November 15, 2010. Receiving rave reviews, The Steve Harvey Project, an hour-long show that aired nightly, captured the fast-paced morning show each day with new and beloved comedy skits, celebrity interviews, the Strawberry Letter, in-studio contestants for Harvey’s weekly singing talent show, and the weekly Locate Your Love dating segment.

I was boy crazy growing up, and I was always pestering my mom: "How do you get a boy to notice you?" "How can you tell when he's in love?" "How can I catch him?" Mom never knew what to tell me. I read lots of books looking for answers. As I grew up, I tried hard to be everything that a man wanted so they would fall in love with me, but they were just happy for the freebies - they didn't want to commit. After many broken hearts, I found Mr. Right and we are happily married.
My stepmother read this book and told me to read it. I said I didn't need to because I was already happily married. She said every woman should read it and she already gave a copy to my adult, single daughter. To make my stepmom happy, I said I would read the book, and I approached it like a homework assignment. I found out it was the BEST book I ever read on men! It answered all those questions that I pestered my mom about when I was growing up.
Other books I read about men were writing by therapists or relationship experts, and they covered things like how to trick a man in to loving you, or how to tell the difference between bipolar or narcissistic men.
This book is written by a manly man who just tells you the truth about what is going on in a man's mind. Just like we know that a dog likes to chase a ball, and a cat likes to chase string, he tells us what is driving a man.
The author is a comedian with a radio show, and he kept getting calls from women who were confused about relationships and the men in their lives.
The premise is like this: there are two kinds of men: those worth keeping, and those not worth keeping. Then he tells you how to tell them apart. It's not about how to turn YOUR man into a keeper, it's how to sort them out from the get-go. It does not matter if he is narcissistic or bi-polar: if he's psyco - dump him.
First he covers what is going on inside of a man in general. What drives them in life, what they are basically looking for in a woman (like support and loyalty), and what they don't want in a woman. These are not cultural desires, but primal desires.
Then he discusses what men REALLY want and, duh, they want sex. It becomes a game of sex with no strings attached vs. sex with strings attached, and he tells you how to win it. If you let him know that he can treat you like a toy, he WILL treat you like a toy, and leave you broken when he's tired of playing with you. If you let him know that you are more valuable than that, he will either leave (good riddance!), or he will pay the price that YOU set: which is respect and responsible involvement in your life.
He tells you what are the five magic questions to ask a man that will reveal to you if is worth your time or not. These are easy questions that can be asked early on. He also tells you how long to hold out and why. This takes the ball out of his court and puts in back in your court. A worthy man will stay in the game.
The last chapter is the best: How to get the ring and tie the knot. I had a girlfriend who was strung along for 15 years. He kept telling her, "We don't need to get married, it's `just like' being married and I will take care of you no matter what". He had millions of dollars and she quit her job for him. In the end, he took her for granted, treated her like crap, and she finally left. (I never did like him or trust him, but she was too busy trying to be "good enough" for him, while he continued to use her.) When she left, he did not give her a PENNY. She was destitute and broken-hearted (and flabbergasted that he lied to her about taking care of her no matter what). I can see that this chapter could have prevented this whole mess. This chapter could have also saved me years of grief too with guys who strung me along with empty promises and treated me like an option, while I tried with all my might to be perfect enough for them to marry me. What a racket. This book tells you how to cut through all of this and make him either cough it up, or you can see that you've been played long enough and dump him.
As I read the book, I would read excerpts to my husband, who is a responsible, helpful man. (I just lucked out in finding him.) He says, "That book is right! And we need to get some more of these books and give them to all the young women in our families".
So clear your shelves and get this book. Put it on a pedestal and shine a light on it. Stop wasting your time and letting the man decide whether to keep you or throw you back. Take charge and YOU do the keeping or throwing back.
Mr Harvey speak about the 90 day rule as a measurement of time before giving of the cookie. While analyzing the 90 day rule as an important tool for knowing all that you should now about a person and most importantly getting the respect desired, makes an invisible attempt to display that it is also suitable after 3 months to get married.
Furthermore, how to tell if a female is a sports fish or a keeper is similar to saying, ¨Are you a toy or someone who can be taken home to mom. Well, this chapter would have a female who views herself as a keeper reevaluate the way that they may have been doing things.
The five questions of seriousness are great question to use to evaluate a man's sincerity. Everyone should have a plan when dating someone. I feel that dating is to get married. If you don't plan on getting married why date. By knowing a mans short-term, and long-term goals, his views on relationships, what he thinks of you ; not being the same as how he feels about you, should tell you exactly where your relationship is headed before you get too deep. If the man that you love profess his love for you but has not committed to marrying you and you are having concerns, it is because you (female) has not required him too.
I like this book because introduced a lot new concepts. Sports fishing vs keeper, Mama Boys, Why men cheat, and most of all I enjoyed the how to spots. Why? I can utilize new information
I rated it a five because it only to me three days to read, alongside a super busy schedule. I like how he spoke of his wife and how witty she was and is during their dating days. She let him know what she expected. If he wanted her he had step up and realize that she's real and he has to start living right by her. Marjorie packing her bags and leaving set the tone for his much needed maturity in the situation.
If I had to recommend this book to someone it would be my best friend since high school, Monique.
