Villanova Opens BIG EAST Play At Georgetown

VILLANOVA, PA. – Villanova opens BIG EAST play on the road in Washington, DC for a three-game series against Georgetown on March 28.  Game one is Thursday with the first pitch at 3:00 pm.  Game two is set for Friday March 29 at 2:00 pm followed by the finale Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 pm.

BIG EAST Begins: Villanova and Georgetown will meet to kick off BIG EAST play for both teams for the third year in a row.  Game one will mark the 155th matchup between the two programs dating back all the way to 1898. The Wildcats lead the Hoyas 98-56 all time. Georgetown claimed the series last year winning two out of three at Villanova Ballpark.
 
First Time For Everything: Cam Hassert and AJ Hansen hit their first home runs of the season in the Liberty Bell Classic this past Wednesday against Rider. This marks Hansen's 11th career homer and Hassert's eighth.
 
Welcome Back Dylan: Grad transfer Dylan Dennis returned from injury last week and is starting to get going. In Villanova's weekday matchup against Rider on March 25th Dennis led the team with three hits in the day with one being a double and an RBI.

Neff Said: Jason Neff has a two-game home run streak.  Over the two games he has added four RBI as well.

Breaking Down the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is off to a 16-8 start on the season and is in third place in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas are coming off an 11-4 loss to Maryland on March 26th.
  • The Hoyas have had two standout hitters so far this season, Jake Hyde and Christian Ficca.  Hyde is batting .317 and has been phenomenal at extra base hits this season ranking second in the BIG East in doubles with 10.  Ficca is right behind him with nine doubles (fifth in BIG EAST) but also ranks second in hits (38), second in home runs (7) and first in RBI with 37.  The duo is a key piece of this Hoyas offense.
  • The starting pitcher for game one is Marcello Mastroianni. Mastroianni has made seven appearances and holds a 4-0 record with a 3.62 ERA.
