Is there an English version of Mapquest for Italy streets for walking from one location to another ?
Or is there something similar like Mapquest ?
Thanks

http://maps.google.com But it's not completely reliable, and some of the locations it suggests for something like St. Peter's Basilica are totally absurd.
Not sure how Google localises things but their GoogleMaps has a Streetview facility that may well be available to you on
or a more local site!
But, for instance, paste the following into your browser, and then click on the "more" and select 'StreetView' :
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&newwindow=1&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=30&lr=&as_filetype=&as_sitesearch=&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=off&q=rome+pantheon&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Pantheon,+Rome,+Italy&gl=uk&ei=HxauS-KOOdGJ_AbW-dyxDw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAwQ8gEwAA
Not everywhere has been done yet!

viamichelin.com is more reliable than Google Maps, but it needs a street address: e.g., Piazza della Rotonda for the Pantheon, Piazza San Pietro for St. Peter's Basilica.
Thanks Peter, it's very cool !
Cool? More than that, it's rather spooky - like being in the background when they film the news. So annoying not to have been out and about on the day when they came right past our home!
Ever so handy though, even if the web-links are a bit long for passing on to someone else.

This website might be helpful for those long links: http://tinyurl.com/
Thank you!
I've seen people using Tinyurl before but have never looked it up till now - how clever!

The locations that Google maps has listed for some of the monuments can be wrong. Some of the monuments are recognizable from the satellite view of Google map. On my map of the barberini metro stop area, I makred the Trevi fountian by hand with the tool.
The trevi fountina is recognizable as a turquiose resctangle from the satellite view
