I travel between south Wales and Heathrow a few times a year, and with the advent of the new Elizabeth tube line as well as a handy coach link I decided to stay a night in Reading (rather than go into Paddington and out via Heathrow Express to the airport) before a mid morning flight. This is the first time I have tried this and chose Malmaison as it was a very reasonable price on a Sunday night and is also adjacent to Reading station and the bus stops for Heathrow. I have stayed at other Malmaison hotels and usually enjoyed the stay and this was no different. I had a lovely corner room on the first floor, with adequate double glazing to keep most (but not all) of the noise of trains, buses and cars out. The room was clean and there were some nice touches - i.e. a tiny box of Lindt chocolates by the bed, a coffee maker as well as a kettle, and a bath as well as a shower. The bath towels looked very new, clean and large - one of my bugbears in hotels is small, threadbare towels! The heating controls seemed to work OK and there was a large Smart TV in the corner of the room, with plenty of channels including a couple of Sky channels. I did not try to connect to my Netflix but I suspect it is possible. There was also an iron in the wardrobe, a small mini fridge, and slippers and robes. However both robes were mini or small so I could not use one. I had a comfortable night’s sleep in the large king size bed as there appeared to be a thick soft mattress topper on the bed. As it was Sunday the restaurant was closed but I was told the bar area would be open and serving a full menu. I went down to the bar which has a nice range of gins and other alcohol. Although the menu did not appear to be quite the full menu, there was a good choice including starters, mains and desserts. I chose the starter of chicken karage which comprised small pieces of chicken in a spicy and tasty coating served with sesame sauce. I also had a portion of truffle and Parmesan fries - these were excellent, hot, crispy and tasty. The chicken was also very tasty. My only issue was with the acoustics as there was a group of four people talking so loudly at each other, that I could hear every word although I sat as far away as possible and round the corner from them. However this was not the fault of the hotel, just some thoughtless individuals. All in all a good stay at a nice hotel, conveniently located if you are travelling in the area.…
We travelled to Reading to spend three nights at the Malmaison. We choose this hotel chain as we have stayed with them in Brighton and loved it. The hotel is in a great location, opposite the train station but if you travel here in a car you can get a discounted parking space in the NCP car park close by! Its very close to the shops and bars. The Oracle centre really has it all! Only a short walk the other way leads to the beautiful scenic river where you can watch the boats and swans swim by! We were not disappointed with our choice and we had a comfortable, restful time. We booked a suite which was just perfect and met our every need. The room had a large bathroom which included a luxury bath tub, I’m tall and I could completely spread out in it. The shower had both a rain shower and a normal shower head and just a touch of a button was all you needed to turn it on and off. There were two tv’s one in the lounge area and one in the sleeping area. The bed was honestly one of the best beds I have ever slept in whilst away on my travels! It was spacious comfortable and the bedding was crisp and clean. As we travelled here in this strange year we knew that it wouldn’t be what you would normally expect from a hotel stay. There were no little extras in the room and breakfast had to be continental and a room service delivery. Wow, it came in a beautiful hamper and the food was ample. I think I actually enjoyed this experience more than I would have if going down to breakfast. We didn’t see many members of staff during our stay but we didn’t feel we needed to. The girls on reception were polite and saw to our needs in a very professional manner. We did however spend part of our evenings in the bar and we were delighted to meet Manie who was really friendly. We enjoyed chatting to him and he was very helpful in giving us some tips on what to do and where to visit during our stay in Reading. He also mixed an amazing gin every time! If you stay here drop by the bar to meet him, you won’t be disappointed! Over all I would recommend this hotel, the only criticism that I have is that the lighting in the suite was dim and I struggled with this when applying make up and styling my hair. …
Following a number of failed attempts to get a reply from the hotel to book a business mtg and overnight stay for 10 of us, we nearly gave up. However, fortunately we knew a member of staff who worked at the hotel (Yvette) and she helped us get through to someone and we proceeded to book our stay. Once at the hotel the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. Yvette was the standout performer and ensured we had everything we needed at every turn, but there were others who were also providing high levels of customer service. The food at lunch, dinner and breakfast was all of very good quality and timely in its arrival. The rooms (certainly the one that I stayed in) was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The rain shower in the bathroom was excellent and I enjoyed a decent cup of coffee from the Nespresso machine - A nice little extra touch and beats hands down the packets of instant coffee that are often provided in other hotels. Note for the hotel - My room had two small espresso cups but if you choose the large serve option on the Nespresso machine the amount of liquid that is dispensed is too much for the cup so a slightly larger cup is required. This small oversight didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of my stay however and I write it only to help the excellent team here. Will definitely book this hotel again and would highly recommend to others. Thank you to Yvette and all the team - Keep up the great work!!…
Awful location right in centre of Reading where there is absolutely NO PARKING anywhere near the hotel. You cannot even stop just outside to set passengers down or drop luggage as it is entirely surrounded by double RED lines - no stopping at any time. You have to park in a long stay car park at the Railway Station, which is a good 7 or 8 minutes walk away, and carry your luggage to the hotel yourself. Lad who checked us in was so helpful. He not only found me some additional pillows and brought them to the room very quickly, but he also booked a cab for us to our restaurant at the Oracle. On the other hand, the girl on duty this morning obviously could not give a toss when I reported that our air conditioning did not work and our toilet did not flush. As it was the hottest day on record yesterday, we had to try to sleep with a tiny window open to get any air, which of course (in a city centre) was noisy. As for the toilet, the very least I demand of any hotel room is that I get a functioning toilet. I had to take the plastic inner from the waste bin in the bathroom and fill it with water in the sink and then tip it into the toilet to get rid of our waste. Not pleasant. And this was in the £340 a night Rocket suite! Girl on duty's response - "I will tell maintenance". Not even a "sorry to hear that" let alone any offer of compensation by reducing the bill. Awful. Will never stay here again.…
The hotel is really close to Reading Station and the town centre. Triple glazing keeps out the noise from the street, club rooms on the 4th floor are quiet, clean, large and comfortable, bed super king size, and for where it is really good value. Malmaison quality staff are as always really friendly. Local area has so many restaurants, shops and cafes, will definitely stay here again.
We (girlfriend and I) stayed at the Malmaison a couple of weeks ago for the second time, we were only there for one night but had a brilliant time. We were looking for a quick get away just for the night, when I went to book I thought the prices were actually pretty cheap not sure if they had a sale on or something, so we booked a suite along with a 3 course dinner and breakfast all for £160 all in, we both thought it was amazing value. When we got to the hotel it was clear from the start that they had all the covid rules in place, annoying as it is we had to wear our masks when not in our room or sat eating or drinking......but not to much of a problem as what else would we be doing! Our suite was very clean and tidy and we were both impressed with it, comfy bed, nice walk in monsoon shower, and well decorated, plus it had sky sports so I got 5 mins of football in before being told off by the girlfriend. Before dinner we had drinks in the bar which was table service, we had 3 or 4 cocktails which were very nice, they had a decent sized cocktail menu alongside normal drinks. Our dinner was awesome both my girlfriend and I loved it, really tasty food, good friendly service and the dishes came out promptly. Recently we had eaten out a few times and my reviews were just ok, I was starting to think I had become hard to please! ........I'm not and this meal was really good. The 10pm drinking curfew was in place whilst we were there, so after dinner we managed one more drink in the bar before they closed up shop, we took another to our room and that was that. Breakfast the next day was delivered to our door at 9am (our choice) it came in this massive wicker basket, and had fruit, yoghurts, cereals, pastries, orange juice and stuff for tea and coffee, it was really well done. In conclusion we had an amazing night away, and will most certainly be going back again. Oh...and they validate parking if you park across the road at the NCP i believe saves you around 50% on parking.…
My husband and I were delighted by our stay.( We have stayed here many times and have always been very happy by not only the staff but the whole ambiance) The girl at check in was efficient, professional and helpful. Our room (106) was spacious and spotless. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also excellent and I think the move away from small plastic bottles to larger refillable ones is sensible. We had booked a three course evening meal as part of our package and were greeted warmly by Paolo in the restaurant. We'd been nervous of being in a crowded restaurant and were relieved to find only four out of the fifteen tables were occupied. Being socially distanced from other diners felt reassuringly safe. I have various food in tolerances. Our charming Italian waiter Paolo listened carefully, checked with the kitchen to see which dishes were suitable for me and made some helpful suggestions. Our food was served at a good pace and each dish was delicious. I had prawns as my starter, the pumpkin and sage ravioli and the mascarpone cheese cake with warm autumn berries. I am not really a pudding person but I really enjoyed this , particularly the caramalized slice of orange on top. My husband enjoyed his chicken wings, lamb shank bhuna and chocolate mousse. All in all an excellent dining experience. Our breakfast was also excellent and Paolo showed us the same courtesy and care. He is superbo!…
Three of us had three rooms here for two nights. The hotel is opposite Reading Station but has no car park. We parked at the long stay station car park for a whopping £25 per day. They do have a deal with a car park 15 minute walk away at £19 per day minus 20%. The reception staff are friendly and professional plus the breakfast is cooked to order and very food as are the communal areas but the rooms are beginning to look tired. Lost of water marks in the bathrooms, empty mini bar, not even a water and very minimal toiletries provided but you do get a safe, ironing board, iron and decent WiFi. The room gets hot and the aircon is noisy but to loud outside to open the window. Just ok for me and if it wasn't for a great breakfast it would be below average.
The hotel is in a really convenient location and considering it’s next to a nightclub and the train station it was really quiet. The reception team were really friendly and professional at all times. I really liked that the lifts and staircase only open with the use of a room card. It made me feel a lot safer when staying in a hotel. I wish more hotels offered this service. The room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was huge. I loved the fact you have a shower and a bath all in the same room. The only downfall was the toilet as the flush stopped working in the evening but then started working the next morning. The bed was really comfortable and liked the fact there was extra pillows in the wardrobe as most hotels don’t offer this service.
I booked an Afternoon Tea for my best friends baby shower at the beginning of July and this was just the perfect venue! The Afternoon Tea was incredible, everyone was blown away especially with the home made sausage rolls! It is definitely not your average afternoon Tea. There was so much variety of hot, cold and sweet! It was amazing value for money. We had one vegan and one veggie who were very impressed and felt they got the same variety and value for money too. We even got to take home any left overs, mainly the gorgeous scones :) too good to leave behind! I was able to get in the room early to decorate and Nick from reception wrote a lovely welcome message for the mum to be on the cinema board in reception which was such a lovely touch! Matt on the bar was great, extremely attentive and polite with all of the guests. I heard lots of great feedback about him. I'd definitely book again for another event!…
