Glasgow School of Art after the second fire

The historic Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed building was almost completely destroyed by fire in May 2014. Four years later, on 16th June 2018, as the 35M restoration work was nearing completion, fire struck again, causing even more damage than the 2014 event.

At the time of writing in June 2018, the cause of the second fire is unknown and expert opinion is divided on whether the main structure of the building can be saved or whether it will need to be demolished.

The school will be rebuilt, probably at a cost of over 100M.
