Product Description
A political filmmaker goes to Long Island for the weekend. There, he finds himself entangled with a high-living, jet-set crowd. At first it is exciting, but soon he finds himself disillusioned by their shallowness. The film contains an early performance by Robert DeNiro. Footage from Sam's Song was later re-edited into a completely different movie--known as both The Swap and Line of Fire--in which a man investigates the death of his brother.

I laughed when the movie was over because it really was awful. I kept thinking that this would be an awesome movie for Mystery Science Theater to watch and make their sarcastic comments.
Also, if you do like the very strange soundtrack, I can recommend another movie that has a very similar soundtrack and is also a strange movie., too. It's called 3 Women and stars Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall. It was made two years prior to The Swap.
The 1979 part of the movie were scenes shot to to introduce a brother of Di Nero just out of prison trying to find out how Sam was killed ten years ago. The 1979 shot scenes included Sybil Danning playing the 10 year older version of the Erica but looking much younger than Jennifer Warren had played in the 1969 film. Her scenes along with the other actors shot in 1979 were edited in with parts of the 1969 footage.
Now that I finally got to view the entire original low budget movie Sam's Song with the younger Robert Di Nero, I find that it's not a very good movie either. Di Nero might have been upset with The Swap editing in his parts from Sam's Song but my guess it that he was more upset that his fans used to seeing him as an award winning actor in The Godfather ll, the Deerhunter and Raging Bull, might be really shocked to see him when he was just a young actor appearing in badly made low budget films.
