I had some vacation time that I had to use by the end of the year. So I decided to take a quick trip up along Lake Ontario to get some pictures of lighthouses with snow on the ground.

I left the house around 8:30 in the morning, hopped on Interstate 90 heading east. I exited I-90 at exit 42, which is the Geneva exit. From here, I followed State Route 14 north for about 22 miles. This put me into the Town of Sodus Point. While in Sodus Point, I photographed the Old Sodus Point, and the Sodus Pierhead Lighthouses. I spent some time trudging through the snow to get some good pictures of the Old Sodus Lighthouse. From this vantage point, I also took some distance shots of the Sodus Pierhead Light.

After finishing up at the Old Sodus Light, I stopped at the end of 8th Street to get some distance shots of the Old Sodus Lighthouse. Once I left there, I headed to the end of Wickham Blvd. and the parking lot. From here, I was able to walk through the snow to the Sodus Pierhead Lighthouse. The pier was covered with ice, but I started to walk it anyways. After getting about halfway out, I decided that it wasn't worth it, and turned around. On my way back towards shore, there was a speed limit sign for the bay that had ice veins on it. It was pretty wild.

Once I made it back to the car, I headed back to Route 104 and followed that west towards Rochester. From 104, I followed Lake Ave. north several blocks to the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse. The last time I visited this lighthouse was in August of 1998. At that time, I took a few quick shots from the parking lot, and left. This time, I spent a little more time getting shots from different angles, including a few from below the lighthouse on River Street.

After getting enough pictures of the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, I followed the Lake Ontario State Parkway west. My next stop was at the Braddock Point Lighthouse. As with the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, the last time I visited the Braddock Point Lighthouse was in August of 1998. As this lighthouse is private property, it is hard to get decent shots of it from the street.

After getting the only shots I could from the street, I got in my truck to leave. As I started to drive away, I spotted a sign about a park. I stopped and backed up to read it. It had said that there was a public park between the lighthouse and the other house. The sign was dated August 7, 2001, so it was definitely not there when I visited in 1998. There was a man shoveling his driveway across the street, so I asked him about the park. He said it was indeed a park, so I walked towards the lake. From this park, you can get really good shots of the lighthouse. So this was a very good discovery.

I continued on the Lake Ontario State Parkway heading east. My last stop for the day was at Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse. I had just visited this lighthouse back in January of 2007 to get some winter shots, but I had to drive right past this lighthouse on my way home, so I figured why not stop. I had also purchased a new camera since then, so I was able to get some new shots using it. After finishing up here, I was off towards home.
