LIFE-SIZE HAND-PAINTED ZINC STATUE OF A NATIVE AMERICAN
Late 19th Century
Made by William Demuth of J.L. Mott Iron Works, after the original wood carving by Samuel Anderson Robb. Figure stands on a rockery base while looking over his left shoulder and holding a bow shaft, and is wearing a three-feather headdress, a bear claw necklace, a yellow cape with three red and blue stripes, and buffalo skin pants. Paint has been restored by Harry Dowler of Sandwich, Massachusetts.
Height 78".

William Demuth worked under Samuel Anderson Robb (1851-1928), the carver best known for his tobacconist figures. Robb's wood carving of this particular figure is in the Smithsonian collection.

Seem separation to left arm. Right hand is broken off.
