About
The Leopold Museum is a unique treasure-house of Viennese Jugendstil, the Wiener Werkstätte and Expressionism. It is the most-visited museum of the city's hottest cultural site, the MuseumsQuartier, and it houses the most significant and largest Egon Schiele collection in the world, as well as masterworks by Secession founder Gustav Klimt. Tip: The museum's panorama windows offer a wonderful view of central Vienna with Maria Theresa Square and the Hofburg Palace.

- Anthony KLondon, United Kingdom15,161 contributionsA Fine GalleryThis fine Gallery was one which I visited twice during my eight day stay on the City. It has a truly remarkable set of Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt artworks and is complimented by other fine works by their contemporary Austrian artist, including specifically Oscar Kokoschka. Easily accessible for wheelchair users and I afforded two hours plus for each visit. The Museum has two cafe's including one on it's roof top with fine views.Visited June 2023Traveled soloWritten June 21, 2023
- ssstevegHaifa, Israel1,743 contributionsGreat museum in Vienna! The Leopold Museum is an art museum specializing in modern Austrian art. We enjoyed our visit here very much. It is located in a cultural center called the Museumsquartier. It's an enclosed center holding several different museums, and is located very close to the Kunst Museum. We had difficulty finding it and had to ask several people how to find it (none of whom actually knew where it was), but we found it in the end. It's a lovely center, and the museum itself was most enjoyable.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 22, 2023

Extremely well structurize presentation of among other things, the Secessionists. Buy a phone guide and set time for the museum.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023

An eclectic mixture of traditional and modern art, with something for everyone. Staff are friendly and helpful. Also, excellent value for 15 euros each. Thoroughly recommend.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 7, 2023
- David Š1 contributionTop Museum of "Fin di Siecle"The Leopold Museum is a top institution for art lovers around the turn of the century. The museum is clearly organised and the collections are complemented by facilities such as a traditional gift shop and café. Admirers of Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele or Oskar Kokoschka, Koloman Moser, Gerstl and other representatives of late 19th and early 20th century art should not miss this place.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 16, 2023
- Stefania S1 contributionAustrian art at its bestThe Leopold museum was my favorite from our trip - expect a lot of existentialism from artists like Klimt and Schiele. The museum is really big, it can take you 3-4 hours to see all the art pieces. There is also a photobooth at level 0 and you can make some photos for 3€!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 2, 2023
- jerrman01Portland, Oregon66 contributionsA definite on your museum toursA terrific museum with wonderful exhibitions of work by Max Oppenheimer and Gabrielle Munter. The museum also has a very nice cafe serving healthy and delicious options. Despite the crowds on a Saturday, it was all pretty easy to maneuver around and even get a quick bite at the cafe in between viewing the exhibits.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 12, 2023
- Carl-Fredrik G22 contributionsA lovely museum well-worth the visitVery nice museum with interesting exhibitions that we enjoyed. Some very fine pieces of art and some new pieces which we were not familiar but could enjoy regardless. The restaurant was also pretty good food-wise but the environment wasn’t the best.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 2, 2024

You can get joint tickets with the MAK. I would recommend choosing one or the other unless you have a lot of time to fill. The art was great. I find myself drawn to local artists when I go to art museums after being to so many. The Leopold offered some of that. However, in retrospect, I would say that the Belvedere is the best if time is short. I just didn't see enough of an artistic difference between the three as many artists were in all of them.

Despite the very many great museums in Vienna, the Leopoldo Museum remains my favorite.
It hosts a very large section on the exceedingly talented Egon Schiele and another on the World Famous Gustav Klimt. They also do an excellent job explaining how the Secession Movement came about in Austria and the contributions by its various founding members.
The Leopold also hosts excellent visiting exhibitions. This time round there was one in German Expressionism and another on Schiele was to open tomorrow.
I will need to go back again tomorrow.
PS the Leopold Cafe on the 2nd floor is excellent for a bite n a drink.

All the staff was very rude, in a bad mood and they even smelled bad. We bought our online ticket in advance but we had to line up anyways and every time any staff approached they did it very moody and disrespectful. Nevertheless, the architecture and art are beautiful.

If you read Elisabeth Hickey's "The painted kiss", you'll see everything that is described about Klimt's life in the @leopold_museum, from Klimt's works of art and life, to the people in his life, Emilie Flöge, Schiele, Moser and the Secession.
Also, the Museum was great organized. They have taken all the pandemic measures for a safe visit, it was not crowded at all. The people working there, were very kind, we even exchanged some after-opinions with the doorman, very nice guy.
Perfect time for a visit! Definitely would come again!

Went to the Leopold Museum to view artwork from Austrian artists throughout the years. There were some very beautiful sculptures and artwork which was very interesting especially from the early to mid 1900's. Spent a couple of hours meandering through. Yes, there is certainly different artwork from the other European museums and you need to sit and take the displays in. Worthwhile to get the recorder for the commentary. Don't forget to visit the shop and the cafe afterwards.

In addition to the permanent collection there are currently two excellent exhibitions on in the Leopold. The Hundertwasser – Schiele is a must (open until 31.08.2020), in addition to presenting an extremely rich collection of Hundertwasser’s painting the parallel between the two artists is just amazing. The German Expressionism is also a good collection of works which cannot be seen often (it closes on 20.04.2020). If you like painting and have a chance to go - don’t hesitate.

Rudolf Leopold began collecting paintings by Egon Schiele in 1950 and ended up with one of the largest collections of them, including a famous self-portrait when he was 19 or 20. In addition there are works by Oskar Koskoschka and Gustav Klimt. Together, these three were the most influential Viennese artists of the 20th century. The Cafe Leopold on the top floor is excellent. Get your timing right and have lunch there.

I am not a massive art fan but I do like to visit an art gallery when visiting a new city. I choose the Leopold because it was very close to my hotel. i really enjoyed my visit, very simple gallery not massive or confusing. Very spacious and a beautiful place. At the heart of the content are the works by Schiele and Klimt. if you are not an art fan you will not recognise many of the pictures but I really enjoyed my visit and you well too. Cost at 14 euro a bit on the high side considering the limited number of works.

If I had known what a fantastic museum this is, I would have visited earlier on or taken more time for it. The Leopold Museum has one of the best and most extensive collections of expressionist art that I have seen. Its exterior may not be as iconic as, for example, that of the KHM, but its art is highly impressive. Unmissable, especially for those who appreciate expressionist art.

Hello, is there any advantage to buying a ticket online? I have read reviews that you end up queuing to get in anyway and its very unorganised? Has this been improved? Or should I just buy a ticket at the museum? Thank you.

Bonjour, je pense visiter ce musée en août (muni d'un pass vienne). La file d'attente à l'entrée est-elle très importante ? Et y a-t-il un jour ou un horaire où l'affluence est moins grande ? Merci de votre aide.
