Beautiful Pinay Actresses

Having done articles on Japanese actresses and several on the women of Bollywood, I thought I would do one on Filipina actresses.
Now there are several stunning women that you may already know about that are Filipino or have Filipino heritage....

American glamour model Alley Baggett is of Filipino and Hispanic descent.
Wayne's World, Wayne's World 2 and Relic Hunter star Tia Carrere is of Filipino descent.
80's sex symbol Phoebe Cates (remember the "pool scene" in Fast Times at Ridgemont High?) is of Chinese, Filipino and Russian Jewish descent.
High School Musical star Vanessa Anne Hudgens is of Irish, Native American, Chinese, Filipino and Spanish descent.
One of the most beautiful women in the world (to me at least) Natassia Malthe is of Norwegian and Filipino heritage.
Vanessa Minnillo is Italian, Irish and Filipino.
And the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger is Hawaiian, Filipina and Russian.

But this article is about some of the female stars of Philippine cinema that you may have never heard of, starting with......

Angel Locsin

Here is the star of Darna herself, the beautiful Angel Locsin.
Angel was born on April 23,1985 in Bulacan, Philippines.
She rose to fame as Alwina in the fantasy television series Mulawin in 2004.
But it was her role as the super hero Darna that put her over the top.
Darna the TV series came out in 2005, but Darna the character was created by Mars Ravelo in 1947, so Darna is a Filipino comics icon.
(Darna was drawn by Nestor Redondo who later went on the work for DC and Marvel comics).
Although Mulawin and Darna made Angel popular, her first role was in the 1999 teen-oriented series Click.
Angel made her first film appearance in the 2000 film, Ping Lacson: Supercop.

Katrina Halili

Filipina actress, commercial model and music producer, Katrina Halili was born on January 4th, 1986 in Quezon City, Philippines.
Katrina made her debut in 2002's StarStruck a Philippine talent competition.
She had gone on to appear in over eighteen television shows, including playing "Black Darna" in the Philippine Super Hero TV show Darna.
In addition to TV, Katrina has appeared in ten movies, including another super hero based project, Super Noypi.

Sarah Geronimo

Filipina singer and actress, Sarah Geronimo was born on July 25th, 1988 in Santa Cruz, Manila, Philippines.
Sarah has released seven albums, five of which have gone platinum.
Popstar: A Dream Come True, her debut album in 2003 is the twentieth highest selling album in OPM (Original Pilipino Music) history, with 210,000 plus copies sold.
Besides music, Sarah has appeared on 14 television shows and she even had her own series in 2004 called Sarah, The Teen Princess.
She has also appeared in six movies, including the Super Hero movies Captain Barbell and Lastikman: Unang Banat.
Lastikman and Captain Barbell, by the way, was created by the same man that created Darna, Mars Ravelo. (I keep mentioning these movies because I like comics!)

Marian Rivera

Filipina actress, singer and dancer Marian Rivera was born Marian Gracia Rivera on August 12th, 1984 in Madrid, Spain.
Her father was a Spaniard and her mother was a Filipina.
She made her acting debut in the soap opera Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako (If You Would Just Love Me) as Clarisse Galang.
That same year, Marian made her big screen debut in the film Enteng Kabisote 2: Okay Ka Fairy Ko: The Legend Continues.
Marian went on to appear in thirteen soap operas and TV shows (including the 2009 Darna series) and fifteen films.
Besides acting, she has also released two albums, Marian Rivera Dance Hits (2008) and Retro Crazy (2009).

Cristine Reyes

Filipina actress, teen star and model Cristine Reyes was born Ara Cristine Pascual Reyes on February 5th, 1989 in Marikina City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
In 2002, Cristine made her acting debut in the pilot episode of Pira-Pirasong Pangarap and in 2004 she appeared in the teen/youth dramedy show Click.
Since then she has appeared in over twenty TV shows (yes...including Darna as Molecula).
She made her film acting debut in the movie Beautiful Life in 2004.
Cristine has gone on to appear in twelve films, including Enteng Kabisote 4: Okay Ka Fairy Ko... The Beginning of a Legend, the fourth in the series of films that Marian Rivera made her debut in.
Small world huh?

KC Concepcion

Filipina actress, singer, vj, model, and UN World Food Program ambassador KC Concepcion was born on April 7th,1985 in Manila, Philippines.
KC has appeared in films, television and on stage.
She also released an album "a.k.a. Cassandra" (Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion is KC's full name)
On stage she has appeared in The Little Mermaid as Princess Sapphire, Beauty and the Beast as Belle and Katy, the Musical Concert.
In 2003 she began a stint as a VJ for MTV Asia.
In 2008, the United Nations World Food Program made her a National Ambassador Against Hunger.
That same year she debuted on television with the drama anthology I Am KC.
And she debuted on the big screen in the romantic film, For the First Time with Richard Gutierrez.

Diana Zubiri

Diana Zubiri is a Filipina actress who was born Rosemarie Joy Garcia on April 15th, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines.
Diana applied for work as an entertainer in Japan at the age of fifteen, and was discovered by the Philippine film company Seiko Films.
After appearing in a few films, she went to work for GMA Network and appeared in the variety show Eat Bulaga! and the sketch comedy television show Bubble Gang.
She has appeared on fourteen TV shows, all on the GMA Network.
Diana has appeared in eleven films.
Her first eight were all for Seiko Films, but in 2008, she went to work for Regal Films and OctoArts Films.

Francine Prieto

TV child star, fashion model and movie actress Francine Prieto was born Anna Marie Falcon Prieto on September 29th, 1981 in Manila, Philippines and is of Filipino and Norwegian descent.
She started out on GMA's variety show That's Entertainment in 1990.
Then Francine moved on to the daytime drama Love to Love in 2005 and went on to appear in twenty TV shows.
And yes she was in the 2009 Darna; she played Lucifera / Lucy / Babaeng Tuod.
Francine has appeared in eighteen films including the 1991 Darna film as Young Narda.
She also co-starred with Diana Zubiri in the films Liberated, Liberated 2 and Bikini Open.

Gloria Diaz is not only a famous Filipina film actress; she is also the first Filipino to win the Miss Universe crown.
Gloria was born on March 10th, 1950 in Ilocos, Philippines and she won the 1969 Miss Universe pageant.
She made her acting debut in the 1974 film, Ang pinakamagandang hayop sa balat ng lupa (The Most Beautiful Animal in the World).
Gloria has gone on to appear in almost seventy movies and TV shows, and in 2006 she won the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) Best Supporting Actress Award.
In 2010, Gloria raised more than a few eyebrows with some comments she made about Miss Philippines contestant Venus Raj, who came in fourth place which caused some Cebuanos to feel that Gloria insulted their English proficiency.

Rica Peralejo

Filipina actress, singer, and television host Rica Peralejo was born on March 7th, 1981.
Rica also got her start (like Angelica Panganiban) on the kid's show Ang TV.
She has gone on to appear in over twenty TV series.
And although she didn't appear in Darna, she did appear on the Filipino TV series Komiks, which is based on local comic book stories.
As far as movies go, she has appeared in almost thirty films, her latest being Paano na kaya in 2010.
Besides acting, Rica has released two albums on her own and appeared on one soundtrack album.

Precious Lara Quigaman

Precious Lara Quigaman was born on January 3, 1983 in Taguig, Philippines.
She is an actress, model, host, freelance web page writer, and the 2005 Miss International.
Precious also won the Binibining Pilipinas beauty contest in 2005.
She debuted in the Filipino fantasy television series Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, the third and the last installment of the popular Encantadia franchise in 2006.
Since then, she has gone on to appear in thirteen TV shows, the lateset being the Philippine drama series, May Bukas Pa ("There Is Still Tomorrow") which is based on the 1955 Spanish film The Miracle of Marcelino .
In 2008, Lara (along with beauty queens Karen Loren Agustin and Denille Lou Valena Valmonte) started the Turismo Pilipina beauty pagent to help encourage Philippine Tourism.
The finals of the first Turismo Pilipina pagent was held on November 14, 2008 at AFP Theater and was won by Sherylee Sustiguer from Northern Samar.

Angelica Panganiban

Filipina movie and television actress Angelica Panganiban was born on November 4,1986, in Caloocan City, Manila, Philippines.
Angelica may have the youngest start of any of the ladies on this list.
She appeared on the kid's show Ang TV at the age of six.
Actually, a LOT of Filipina actresses and actors appeared on Ang TV that first season.
Anyway, Angelica has gone on to appear in almost thirty TV shows, but remarkably, not Darna.
She made her movie debut in the 1993 film Kadenang Bulaklak at the age of seven and has gone on to appear in twenty six films.

Dawn Zulueta

Filipino film and television actress, hostess and commercial model Dawn Zulueta was born Marie Rachel Salman Taleon on March 4th, 1969 in Manila, Philippines.
Dawn was named one of the best 10th Best Filipino Actress from 1970 to 1996 by the Manila Times (in 1996) and was named one of the Top 10 Actresses of the 1990s by the Manila Standard in 1999.
She has appeared in over 20 films, including the awesome Alyas : Batman en Robin.
On television she has appeared on over ten shows, starting with GMA Supershow in 1988.

Julia Montes

Filipina actress and commercial model Julia Montes was born Mara Hautea Schnittka on March 19th, 1995 in Quezon City, Philippines.
(Although some sources say she was born in Pandacan, Manila)
Julia got into acting through appearing in TV commercials and was cast in roles in shows like Sana Ikaw Na Nga, Magpakailanman, Hiram and Goin’ Bulilit.
Only she is only 17 at the moment, she has appeared in over 20 TV series and 7 films.
Her latest role is in the TV series Walang Hanggan (Eternal) as as Katerina Alcantara / Katerina Montenegro / Katerina Guidotti.

Lovi Poe

"fan" said in the comment section, "I like Lovi Poe but she is not in the list."
Well I checked out Lovi Poe and fan was right.
She should be on the list.
Lourdes Virginia Moran Poe was born on February 11th, 1989 in Angeles City, Philippines.
She is the daughter of "King of Philippine Movies" Fernando Poe, Jr.
Lovi made her acting debut in the TV series "Love to Love" as Angel in 2006.
She is also a fairly popular recording artist with two studio albums and several singles under her belt.

Rhian Ramos

Filipino actress, model and singer Rhian Ramos was born on October 3rd, 1990 in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Her acting career started out in 2006 in the superhero drama television series, "Captain Barbell".
Rhian has since gone on to appear in over 30 movies and TV shows.

Sandara Park is not a half-filipino. He is a pure korean who moves to Philippines when she was 10 years old and started her career in the country. :)

Well, speaking of the most beautiful Filipina actress, Angel Locsin is the best. Inside and out she's beautiful. All I can say is that she is perfect.

Filipinos are not of homogenous race but mostly they are asian looking. Some may look like Indonesians or Vietnamese, some are chinese looking, some may look like Indian Nationals and some may look like Mexicans or Latin Americans. Sarah Geronimo, Kristine Reyes, Precious Lara Quigaman, Katrina Halili and Diana Zubiri may approximate common Filipina beauty.

I agree with almost all of d girls in d list, however just like everyone, i disagree with just two i wont mention. The first one whom i think shoundt have been on dis list is the girl who seems to hav some fakes in d face, sexy yes but not beautiful, although beauty is subjective. The second one is sexy and brainy, but forget the face...she must be on a different category. Hey let us not forget the actresses from the past like hilda k, alma moreno, vivian velez, dina bonnevie, lorna t and vilma santos.
