A professor at a prestigious law school and his students get involved in an unprecedented case.

Yang Jong-Hoon (Kim Myung-Min) is a former prosecutor. He is now a professor at a prestigious law school. He is straightforward and tends to unleash biting remarks. Students don't like him because of this, but Yang Jong-Hoon does not care what his students think of him. Yang Jong-Hoon is focused on cultivating personnel for the law field, members who will be able to contribute meaningfully. Professor Kim Eun-Sook (Lee Jung-Eun) is his only colleague that he can speak openly with.

Kang Sol (Ryoo Hye-Young) and Han Joon-Hwi (Kim Beom) are first year law school students. Kang Sol barely got into law school. She comes from a poor family background. At school, she is surrounded by students who are smart and come from wealthy backgrounds. She feels insecure and even shameful due to her background. Kang Sol slowly learns about the true legal profession. Han Joon-Hwi is at the top among first year law school students. He is an attractive young man with leadership qualities, but he has a secret.

Park Min Jul 11 2023 1:33 pm It started off good until we had the first trial involving the first student. The drama didn't do a good job laying out the information in an effective way, but rather delivered it in monotonous big chunks. I didn't find the cases appealing. The pattern became clear after the second case. Cycling through the students while revealing more of the main case along the way. Somehow they made everything and everyone very conveniently connected to the main case. This resulted in an over-complicated mess for the sake of building something grand and complicated. Despite of their attempt, they also created too many plot conveniences because they had no clue how to progress otherwise. The students' personal stories weren't good to begin with and cliche at best. There were just too many shortcomings in the writing department to count. The cast was okay but there was a lot of overacting going around, exaggerated expressions, motions, phrases and unnecessary edge-lord-like quirkiness. You may think the professor was the main character but shortly after, he became a support one. Some episodes passed while barely saying any lines. The director was trying his damn hardest to patch up this hot mess. If he were to be replaced, the drama would flop so damn hard. Thanks to him we got something kinda watchable.

Natsui Feb 02 2022 6:53 am This drama caught my attention when it first appeared back in 2021. But I just watched it and finished all the episodes in 2 days. I was very impressed, this drama made me got goosebumps. Especially with Yangcrates, his acting is very good. Although sometimes I'm a bit confused by the plot, which is sometimes flashback-present. I really like the soundtrack, the cinematic is very good. What a really good drama.

There are no romance scenes between the main characters. Even though this is only in a drama, but stories about politics and law in the real world might happen like this. No one knows. I was a little horrified too, Han Joonhwi's words was right when he was interviewed about the reason why he wanted to be a law student. "Those who know the law well are dangerous than those who know nothing about it".

However, I highly recommend this drama for it's really worth watching. Maybe many expect this drama to be made into season 2 but I think the ending is already perfect.

Abc Jan 24 2022 12:55 am Very good drama, I really like the space. It’s not like full on action, but it’s very well made, so well that I didn’t have to skip any boring moment. What is very rare for me. All the characters are very likeable, specially Prof. Kang! The end is pretty smooth, it doesn’t feel forced or precipitated, for what I’m grateful. Nothing worse than a clumsy ending. For the romance, I think Joon Hwi loves Sol A, but I think Sol A loves her teacher. And for him of course he won’t have feelings for her as long as she is a student, that would really not go well with his personality.

scorpianio Sep 05 2021 3:18 am Just finished binge-watching this incredible drama 2 minutes ago. I was sceptical at first, considering I hadn’t heard much about this drama and I’m not that interested in the legal world or legal dramas. I was afraid it’d get boring and that the lack of love line, which I found out prior to starting, would put me off. But no, I was wrong and my exceptions were pleasantly exceeded.

This drama was a unique slice of entertainment, offering so much to learn about the legal system in Korea but also keeping the entertainment level consistently high. The cases and general story may not be realistic, considering how so many characters are connected, but individually, the characters portrayed real personalities. I enjoyed seeing the flaws and highlights of the characters, symbolising how no one’s perfect and making it easier to relate to the characters.

There’s so much to talk about, but I’ll keep it simple with my personal favourites. Kang Sol A shone in this drama and I have to give kudos to the actress for making her such a fun, dorky but motivated character. I love how she never let people’s opinions and words get to her. Instead, she was always eager to help other people out no matter what. She was a breath of fresh air in this drama.

Yangcrates (or Professor Yang) was exceptional too. His standoff-ish, direct, and seemingly unfazed persona was hilarious to watch. His interactions with everyone were always so entertaining given his no BS attitude but with Kang Sol A, I just always cracked up. I wish we could’ve learnt more about him, but i guess that’s part of the charm of his character. Still, i would definitely watch a prequel of his time as a law student himself, or watch his romance play out in the same setting.

Hi Aug 15 2021 2:24 am So for now, I'll only be talking about YangSol and SolHwi.

HyeBeom have really great chemistry, despite the fact that there was no actual loveline between SolHwi. But at least it's obvious that they were the partners here. I could really feel the tension and the chemistry between KMM and RHY that I shipped them in the drama. Not only do they have good tension and chemistry, their characters would also go along well. Yangcrates is always cold and serious, while Sol A has a bubbly personality. And I believe in the saying 'the more you hate, the more you love.' and that opposites attract. SolHwi, on the other hand, weren't opposites. In addition to that, I kind of shipped Joon Hwi with Sol B because Joon Hwi is warm, while Sol B is cold.

To those who are saying that YangSol shippers are sexualizing YangSol's relationship as mentor-mentee, no, we are not sexualizing their relationship. There was just more chemistry between their characters and there was also chemistry between the actors. I understand that many are saying it's against the law for a student and a professor to be in a relationship. But we can just say that they decided to be in a relationship when Sol A graduates. Lastly, I just ship KMM and RHY in the drama and not in real life. KMM is a married man so I ship HyeBeom in real life but I ship YangSol in the drama.

It doesn't have love line or whatsoever coz they focused on finding the real culprit but Kim Bum and Hyeyoung's great chemistry cannot be deny. It has many twist and turns. This drama is well done. A must watch. You're definitely missing out if you won't watch this.

Either way, the drama had a great plot, and even though it revolves around college students, it didn't take away the severity of the law cases that were presented. In fact, the law school students theme gave it a fresh twist to other legal k-dramas.

I was rooting for romance between Sol-A and Joon Hwi but oh well :')

P.S. Prof Yang reminds me a lot of Suits' Harvey Specter!

Faced with the worldwide Covid-lockdown, it is still possible to travel online, and maybe some day I will be able to visit Korea IRL.

I just love professor Yang´s protagonist character in the play. He has an ability to suddenly appear in the most various situations, giving just about any scene its peak or anticlimax. The real spirit of a Peking Opera Yang General!

let us have a respectful relationship between Sol A and Professor Yang please. it's refreshing seeing their dynamic in a world where media pushes this narrative that a grown adult man can't view his female student without any desire.

I understood that this was merely a legal drama (law school) which showing how the law students have been living to get their bachelor degree and passing their bar, so they are either going to practicing as barrister, solicitor or prosecutor in the future.

However, there are something that I wanted to share about, which was courts trial, the courts trial wasn't short as you seen in this drama, usually criminal and civil trials are taking years to be decided - them more complicated that cases then the more difficult to reach verdict. And, the relationship between prosecutor and lawyers are always be portraying as cat and dog in every legal drama. But actually, that kind relationship was only occurred in courts room. After the trial was over, they're a good friends at outside courts also same goes with police. By living in legal field, we have to create a professional relationship with anyone involved as mentioned above.

For law students who are struggling with their Quiz, Seminar, Mooting and probably having part-time jobs. You've come so far to this point, Dont Give Up because the weather isn't always raining.. there will be a rainbow and sunny.

For Directors, please show the all students what they have become, not only Joon Hwi and Sol A.

Erica Jun 11 2021 7:07 am Have just finished this drama which I enjoyed. A few points. Great cast, especially Lee Jung and Kim Myung Min. Students great, Kim Bum, actress of Kang Sol B - they should have been the couple. Kang Sol A didn’t cut it, too pouty. Legal procedure in the courtroom totally unrealistic but it didn’t really matter, it’s a drama and the plot was good. Well directed and the Law School really good. It too obviously set up for season 2 as nothing was resolved. Good show with some shining moments, but didn’t quite get a top rating, but love some of the main actors. Korea really knows how to cast seniors and they act brilliantly right into old age.

The cinematography is good. Nice colours/tone and interesting shots. The styling is good. Pretty clothes but realistic and fits each character well. The soundtrack is good and fitting. These are small details but could ruin a show if not done well.

The pacing is decent, dare I say good. For the number of characters and story arcs, I think the pacing is pretty good. It does drag at points and does seem rushed in others but not to the point where I would drop it or find it confusing.

The characters are diverse and interesting. There is a good amount of character development. A decent realistic portrayal of university students. I love all the students and professors. You really do end up making a bond haha. The show has times of comedy. A lot of the time you are laughing at them, not with them. Either way, it's funny.

Of course, the courtroom is not realistic. In the UK that kind of behaviour would offend the judge and get you kicked out lol. Then again I do not know how courtrooms in Korea work, so actually it might be realistic. But who is watching a drama for educational purposes? No one, so I am not too hung up about the portrayal of the court sessions.

Like many others, I am aboard the Kang Sol A and Han Joon Hwi ship. So cute and has an organic feel to it. Wished to have seen more :')

Overall it's pretty good. Recommend :)

Even though there are not many people criticising Ye-Seul, I thought I should leave this here to inspire people to observe and attempt to understand before typing distasteful comments.

There are many reasons why someone may choose to stay in an abusive relationship. I thought the show made this pretty clear, but I guess some of you missed it.

Anyone watching the show may have noticed Jeon Ye-Seul's parents are not present throughout her battle. This may lead one to believe that she does not have parental figures in her life, however, this is just my conclusion after my observations. Running with this conclusion, imagine that someone as important as Assemblyman Ko takes you into his family in the form of an in-law. Going from someone with no active family to someone with a very important family. You'd feel grateful and loved, right?

Okay, let's say my observations and conclusions are incorrect and there is no form of power-play in this relationship, instead let's try and understand how abusive relationships are formed. If you think that when they first meet the abuser is very sweet and loving, you are correct. Well done. No abusive relationship starts off with abuse. That wouldn't be very smart. Now let's imagine again, your very loving boyfriend gets mad at you and hits you. You are confused. He is not normally like this. You must have really pissed him off for him to hit you. It is your fault. You should not have pissed him off. See? It is so easy to fall into that kind of mindset.

If you take my two points and piece them together, you can easily see that Ye-Seul isn't "lame" or "irritating"; she is a victim of abuse. She is grateful that an important family took her in and "loved" her, and how did she repay them? By paralysing their son that "loved" her. Of course in that mindset, she wouldn't be dashing to take her abuser to court.

Now I have in no way been a victim of abuse myself and you do not have to be to understand why Ye-Seul behaves the way she does. I am sure I could keep going; presenting point after point. I just finished watching a law drama and I am feeling quite motivated to do so, but I won't because I believe that I made this pretty clear. I am very disappointed to have come across comments like that even if it was a couple.

But it was just 5% of the story... But I did end up loving the kdrama overall as much as I liked the story and the all characters ... I saw also few flaws, in the beginning the time was difficult to follow, had a rashed ending... But again had Amazing characters, you love and care for them. The ship for Sol A and Joon Hwi,,, is on another level... Me shipping a couple so much... Doesn't even happen on kdramas were the main genre is romance. I wished just a little more,, hoping for a 2 season. If you are asking yourself if you should watch I would just say yes, it's good but don't expect too much. Plus is super bingeable

I think if you want to watch this law school, dont have too high expectation. This drama solely focus to figure out about the truth from main case that leads to other cases as well. This is the beauty of watching kdrama, you become writer yourself. Predicting what will the ending and the twist be.

(and then there was a heartfelt conversation about him realising that he was just studying for the sake of passing. and he realised his goal became passing the exam instead of becoming a judge, so he stopped bc he didn't genuinely want to be in the field of law) therefore he was a law student before becoming a photocopy ahjussi

When someone was abused, their mental state is not well. Just like the abuser, they suffer from mental illness. So yes, Yeseul is stupid and annoying because thats how they usually are. We wont fully understand because we are not and i hope will not be in her shoe..

Someone said something about timeline, and i agree, its a mess, so i just try to ignore it and enjoy this great drama..

Stand out performances Kim Myung Min, Lee Jung Eun, the best, Kim Bum and many students also good, especially Lee Seo Kyung who acts Sol B. Other seniors good, the prof who dies who’s a Prof also in Love Marriage, Divorse, also Sol B’s Farher who was in Something in the Rain.

Congratulations. Can’t wait for the ending. Lee Jung Eun very versatile, have seen her act a woman with Alzheimer’s.

But, oh boy, was i swept away completely. This drama was unexpectedly amazing. It made me more intrigued and anxious with every passing episode. I think this drama is on the top level tier as the Suits (American tv series).

Even though, this drama doesn't have any solid romance lines, the chemistry between Kim beom and Ryu Hye Young is explosive. I could feel their chemistry out of the screen. OR it's just my delulu mind wanting to ship them. I think they look good together.

This is for just that reason, a comma can make the meaning ambiguous. That is why in English legal documents the language is so circuitous so the meaning can never be open to two interpretations and that is why commas are not allowed. I know this for a fact in the UK.

This is a drama and fiction so let’s just enjoy it - it’s interesting and fun, well directed and acted. Kim Beom, Kim Myung Min and Lee Jung - Eun the best, many good supporting roles. Waiting for the next episode.

The lawyers and judges in Korea most be rolling on the floor laughing how implausible this portrays their legal system. Where did they get these writers? Monkeys could do a better job. They must have paid the actors twice the going rate since they had to play their characters with a straight face.

Even if the story is incredibly interesting it fails when it comes to showing how the legal system actually works. I expect more from Netflix and the writers, even as a comedy it fails.

And this is a show where we literally see all the aspects of the suffering, how are y'all going to react to real life cases, where we don't necessarily have all the information?

I've scrolled down and I see not one comment about the life ruining boyfriend, but tons about yeseul, who just had the misfortune of being trapped in a horrifying relationship. Please do your research about the effects of abuse before you complain, the psychiatric symptoms of facing prolonged gaslighting and violence from a person you trusted are no joke. It's absolutely no wonder that something like that can cripple your decision making, your ability to understand what you're going through and your survival skills.

I bet people believe they're above all that, cause they're "not that kind of person" and they're too strong to have that happen to them. The literal point is that it can happen to ANYONE. And it's never the victims fault.

It's just funny and infuriating that the main prosecutor is fond of getting what the student has?? Like getting the ramen, viewing the laptop/phone (whatever the students were using),drink. Can't he even buy his own food? Hahahah. But I guess these acts shows us that bullying really exists even in adults. Looking forward for more exciting episodes. I am also hopeful abt Kang Sol A and Han Joon Hwi's progress.

If you're bought out by a political figure you're no longer qualified to work as a prosecutor when you turn a blind eye to a political figure willing to bend facts and forge fake reports. I felt sad for Yeseul and the way they asked her why she didn't report it or why her story kept changing, she already explained it to all the dumb people in the crowd. In real life scenarios many victims of abuse know their abuser and often don't report it until it's too late. Why? Because it's usually someone they love and they want to believe that person didn't mean to do it, shame, guilt a lot of emotions come up. Unless you're a victim of this type of abuse it's hard to imagine what exactly you would do and how you would feel. Rather than feel disgusted by the victims actions, why not get frustrated at the abuser who used their position of power to perpetuate the abuse instead.

I fell in love with Prof. Yang again, his attitude is too good. N Ye Seul’s acting is beautiful in portraying a victim of an Abusive relationship. The way she shows her dilemma and the others who understand is all perfect to watch. Making me feel sad that I didn’t get a chance to study in a residential law school. If it started from day 1, the victim would fight back from day 1 as well. Abusers usually make sure that the victim is completely In their hands before starting with the abuse. Initially it is little things, like being possessive, monitoring everything. By the time physical abuse starts the victim is too deeply manipulated to immediately realise this is wrong. They blame themselves. People close to the abuser blame the victim too. The victim keeps thinking that the person who loved them so much can't do this to them so it must be their fault. The victim here was in a 3 year relationship. The abuse started recently. Everytime yeseul wants to hate her boyfriend, she probably goes back to the happy times and wonders if it really is her boyfriend who is to blame? Or is it her? And then there's the matter of her boyfriend being paraplegic. Her boyfriend deserves it and in no way was it her fault, but can everyone just put themselves in her shoes and imagine how much she must be blaming herself? How much she must hate herself? Victims of abuse are usually those who don't love themselves. Which is why they try to hold on to tge toxic relationship. It really is insensitive how people are watching a show about law and yet know nothing about the core issues these cases face. It's not about only knowing the law to understand the show. One should be able to empathise as well with the cases. You may not understand the victims but the fact that these things happen all around the world and are common enough to happen frequently means that we SHOULD try to gain an understanding of them before brushing the victim off as a lost cause or lame.

And keep in mind that this has been going on, not for just a month or two, but a few Years. Add to this the gaslighting that the guy's father continually subjects her to, and it's no wonder that she has such little self-worth remaining. Cutting off a toxic relationship is a LOT more difficult than you think, even where there are people around you who care about you and are helping you. I just hope people stop calling her 'lame' and stuff like that because there are many people who've had such experiences. It's only with a lot of effort do they manage to heal from their wounds. And Ye-seul, same as these people is gonna need a lot of time too.

And as for the next week's preview, I'm just puzzled about that scene where YJH says he won't be her lawyer anymore. I get a slight feeling that it could be a red herring... but who knows.

also i think u have to be atleast interested in law to get into this drama and appreciate it!

I've never been this interested to every character in a drama, before, only the protagonist and the antagonist matters to me, but now, even a person with a short screen time intrigues me hahahahahaha more power to this drama! Where is the justice for this young girl? Just because he was drunk and old, he got a short sentence? He should've rotted in jail. He cant be out knowing the that girl just turned adult! Wth.

Ryu Hyeyoung is a very great actress and this is the first work of hers that I've seen since Reply 1988, she has a very refreshing visual too. Kim Beom and her have great chemistry whether or not they decide to make it a romantic connection. Kim Myungmin is doing incredible as a stoic professor/former prosecutor, he reminds me vaguely of Cho Seungwoo from Secret Forest/Stranger.

They may talk a little fast (Netflix subs are also fast lol) and the law language is new to me so I rewatch some scenes, but it's definitely worth it! I hope more people in south korea watch this to increase the ratings. The people who made this masterpiece deserve so much love and support! Kim Beom-sshi, Bo-ra noona, Prof Yang fighting!

At first, it was quite confusing because I didn't know what they were talking about, however, after a few times rewatching, it's becoming more and more addicting to me, especially every time I watch it again, I always find new details of the story. That's why it's so interesting, when I watch again, I find things that I have missed and I start doubting what secrets r the characters hiding because it seems that each one of them has their own backstory. Also with the great acting for the main casts, especially Kim Bum and the cinematic and mysterious feelings to it, it's really worth watching, I can't wait to see what's next to the story

I agree it's complicated but for me that's the charm of this drama, yes I came for this and I'm so into it. I know it's strange but I ship Prof. Yang to Seol A more than to Joon Hwi ? As to the murder of Seo Byeong Ju, the less suspected person is likely the murderer. I bet it's Jeon Ye-Seul, I'm seeing a connection related to her boyfriend which I think will turn out to be Assemblyman Ko's son which is somehow connected to Seo Byeong-Ju, I don't know, just speculations. But if this turns out to be true I'm treating myself Jollibbeeeeee lol

NA Apr 22 2021 2:44 pm it's definitely worth watching so far. sometimes the characters speak too fast for intl audiences to catch all the technical terms they're using but it's natural to native korean speaking audiences and just pause along the way or rewind if you need to read the subs again lol not that hard. the ensemble cast is great at portraying their multi-faceted characters and the storyline is complicated but relatively easy to follow. all of the scenes make sense and contribute to the main plotlines (aka no filler scenes) which is pretty rare in tv shows nowadays.

best of all, they keep the viewers asking lots of questions, not just the obvious questions like who did the crime etc, but also nuanced questions about the individual characters like yeseul's relationship with her bf, seungjae's decision to switch from doctor to law (and how he almost always is top of his class), jiho and seol B look like they also have a bunch of secrets and motives brimming underneath the surface. the mystery and the effect it has on my curiosity keeps me going and i think other viewers would agree to this too.

Incredible acting for the actors and actresses, full of plot twist, cinematic pictures, and realistic story. I really appreciate seo in writer-nim for making a complex story. For a non law student I learned many things from this drama. A lot of quotes, especially from yangcrates that gave me some new knowledge. For you guys who didn't understand the drama, try to adapt slowly. In the beginning I didn't know what they were talking about especially in the discussion scene in eps 1. You guys wouldn't regret it for repeating 2 or 5 times for a scene to understand the words.
