Larry Leichliter served as a director for ChalkZone.[1] He has been active in the animation industry since 1975, having worked on multiple Peanuts specials and several Nicktoons.

Career[]

Leichliter began his career as an animator, working on several Peanuts specials for television.[2] He remained with the Bill Melendez Studio (responsible for the Peanuts specials), working on various shorts and films,[2] including Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown (1977)[3] and Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!! (1980).[4] He eventually became a director at the studio.[5]

During the 1980s, he worked with comic strip artist Cathy Guisewite.[2] In the 1990s, Leichliter was a crew member on the Aladdin animated series in addition to directing on Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold![6] Other Nicktoons Leichliter has worked on include SpongeBob SquarePants[2] and The Fairly OddParents as a director.[7] In 2003, he returned to the Peanuts franchise as co-director of Lucy Must Be Traded, Charlie Brown[8] and I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown.[9]

Leichliter served as supervising director on Adventure Time, garnering three Emmy Award nominations for his work on the show.[10] In 2010, he received an Emmy nomination for sheet timing on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.[10] Leichliter directed for the Frederator series Bee & PuppyCat.[11] He was an animation director on Over the Garden Wall,[12] winning an Emmy Award in 2015 for his work on the series.[10]

In 2019, Leichliter was honored by The Animation Guild, receiving a Golden Award in recognition for his long career in animation.[13]
