How Many Of You Can Relate To These 19 Beautifully Romantic R&B Lyrics, Because Some Of Us Can't

I have yet to feel any of the emotions that are reflected in these R&B song lyrics.

Love is beautiful, and a requisite for healthy human development.

1. Mary J. Blige — "I would've stopped breathing if you told me to"

Do you know how in love you have to be to decline sending much-needed oxygen to your lungs simply because someone told you not to? I mean of course this is an exaggerated song lyric to overstate the degree of love being felt, however this is an intense way to feel for someone. Still love Mary J. Blige's "Not Gon' Cry" though...

2. Gladys Knight — "I'd rather live in his world than live without him in mine"

Gladys Knight's "Midnight Train to Georgia" embodies the internet-famous quote "imma stick beside him." The entire song represents sacrificial love, and although it's touching, it's a feeling I have yet to feel.  I, and many others, like the way that we're living in life way too much to give it up in order to live in someone else's. Can I get an amen?

3. Whitney Houston — "I have nothing if I don't have you"

I'm sure someone would still have something, even if they weren't able to be with their true love irrespective of how painful being without them in their life might be. Furthermore, Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" is still a flawless emotion-inducing song that will be on my wedding playlist.

4. Syleena Johnson — "Now I've been dealin' with you since sweet sixteen / Woman enough to let you raise me"

No one should need or be okay with their partner wanting or willing to raise them as if they were their surrogate parents like illustrated in a song lyric from Syleena Johnson's "I Am Your Woman." It's giving co-dependency. In spite of that, the gist of the song is still sorta sweet...

5. Summer Walker — "I'll go to hell or jail 'bout you, boy"

I want to be in love, yes, but not as in love as Summer Walker was in "I'll Kill You." Hell and jail are two places no one should ever go to for anyone or with anyone, period.

6. Destiny's Child — "Don't know if I need to reassure you / My life would be purposeless without you"

Some of the way Destiny Child demonstrates catering to a man in their song "Cater 2 U" is doable for the right man; however, certain parts of the song are overboard and banefully extra. Even for women in love. I digress though.

7. Destiny's Child — "I wanna give you my breath, my strength, my will to you / That's the least I can do / Let me cater to you"

Destiny's Child

8. Monica — "You're everything to me / The air that I breathe / My sight so I see"

The depth of Monica's "Everything to Me" may resonate with some, but for others, not so much. At least not yet.

9. Shirley Brown — "The bed he sleeps in and every piece of food he eats / You see, I make it possible / The clothes on his back Ha ha, I buy them / The car he drives, I pay the note every month / I'm telling you these things to let you know how much I love that man / And woman to woman / I think you'll understand just how much I'll do to keep him"

Shirley Brown's entire "Woman to Woman" is framed as agape love, albeit it was more indicative of struggle love. Nevertheless, love can make us do more than we should, like Ms. Shirley was doing in the song.

10. Etta James — "I would rather, I would rather go blind, boy / Then to see you walk away from me"

This is...no comment.

11. Ashanti — "See, I could never feel alone with you (In my life) / I'll give up everything I own for you (Won't think twice)"

Now Ashanti. You know good and well that this level of dedication to the one your heart desires is excessive. I couldn't fathom possibly being homeless just to be with my love. I still love "Baby" by Ms. Ashanti though, and will sing it to my next beau like I mean it.

12. Chaka Khan — "I just want to satisfy you / Though you're not mine, I can't deny it / Don't you hear me talking, baby? / Love me now, or I'll go crazy"

I was rockin' with Chaka Khan's "Sweet Thing" until I realized that the whole song was just Chaka professing her love for a man who's already in a relationship, and wooing him to be hers. No amount of attraction to someone should make you want them if they were already seeing someone else. The song is still romantic from a sidepiece perspective though...

13. Alicia Keys — "Some people want it all / But I don't want nothing at all / If it ain't you, baby"

Everyone should want something in addition to their partner. Just saying...

14. Rihanna — "Didn't they tell you that I was a savage / Fuck your white horse and a carriage"

Although this is an antithetical position taken on the idea of love, I can't help but vehemently disagree with this rhetoric proposed in Rihanna's "Needed Me." While I love RiRi forever and always, many of us still want the white horse and carriage, the phrase used as an emblem for the fairytale happy ending most strive to get.

15. H.E.R. ft. Daniel Caesar — "You're my water when I'm stuck in the desert / You're the Tylenol I take when my head hurts / You're the sunshine on my life"

Hopeless romantics everywhere can appreciate this song, although they might haven't experienced the depth of emotion in H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar's "Best Part."

16. Keyshia Cole — "Now you're gone, what am I gonna do? / So empty / My heart, my soul, can't go on"

*Cue Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."* I doubt I'll ever experience the emotions poured into Keyshia Cole's song "Love" since I believe that the heart will always go on like Celine Dion.

17. Toni Braxton — "Please understand if love ends / Then I promise you, I promise you / That I shall never breathe again"

Anyone that is feeling like how Toni Braxton's "Breathe Again" is expressing, PLEASE EXHALE.

18. Lizzo — "Got me standing in the rain / Gotta get my hair pressed again / I would do it all for you, my friend / Ready baby? Will you be my man"

RUINING A FRESH BLOWOUT FOR A MAN, SPECIFICALLY A MAN WHO ISN'T EVEN YOUR MAN IS ASININE. I want no parts of the love that Lizzo was feeling in her song "Cuz I Love You" if it'll make me ruin a fresh hairdo.

19. TLC — "When I need to feel love / Why wait for so long / 'Cause I ain't too proud to beg for something that I call my own"

I guess when you want something bad enough, you'll beg for it like TLC wasn't too proud to do in "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg." Some of us can't relate though. The song is still a bop though...
