- Chris B2 contributionsAn excellent location to visit, well managed with helpful and informative staff, representing value for money.
We were asked to think about what should happen in the future, should it be re-rendered or should the Box stay in place.
I suggest the building is rerendered, the chainmail is removed , adn the roof panels changed to be see through polycarbonate. I suggest this because the covered walkway provides a fabulous perspective of the house which I believe should not be lost.
The house would still mostly be protected from the elements, access to all areas could be retained, and more light could enter the building. The view from the inside would also not be hindered by the chainmailWritten April 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It takes about an hour to walk the full circuit or you can take the short cut which cuts it in half.
We did the circuit clockwise but If we were to return be would probably do it anticlockwise as it is quite steep in some places.
It's definitely somewhere I'd love to again, possibly after the rain, as we visited on a very dry day.Written September 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We went during the Easter holidays and it was very quiet.
The gardens are well signposted so, with a map, was easy to navigate.
The Fernery it worth a visit, accessed by a steep path but with benches at the top offering wonderful views.
Lovely cafe offering lights lunches/drinks and a nice little gift shop.
We were a bit early for the Rhododendron to be in full bloom but there were a few to see, as well as a red squirrel that popped out to say hello.
Definitely worth a visit.Written April 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TermiteTravelsShrewsbury, UK21 contributionsWhat a lovely place. The whole area is just stunning, with plenty to see. We visited the church and medieval grave slabs, the neolithic cairns, standing stones, temple wood stone circle, and dunadd fort mound. Very peaceful, and easy to get around. Park near the church.Written October 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Strawberry FieldsKendal, UK24 contributionsWe thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Dunollie Castle. Staff very helpful and friendly. Our tour guide Jamie was excellent, so enthusiastic and informative. Great views from the Castle. The Kettle Tearoom served very enjoyable snacks. Disappointed not to see the red squirrels but staff assured us that they can often be seen.Written June 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tcc334Aberdeen, UK183 contributionsA really nice spot to visit. Situated not far from the main road and easy to find. Plenty parking and the castle itself may be a ruin, but it was still worthy of a visit. The exterior wall is intact but the interior is no more than ruins with a towered roofed section which you go up through to get onto the walk which takes you around the wall of the castle. Still ....... a really historical place that definitely worthy of a visit if you're in the area.
Also, there are ruins if a Chapel in the woods here also.Written July 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - christina b1 contributionWent to Oktoberfeat on Saturday the 30th of September.
Fantastic little brewery, on an amazing plot of farm land! The staff were outstanding, they were dressed up for the occasion and so friendly, I had my 5 year old twins with me and they had plenty of large outdoor toys to keep them entertained, live music, a wonderful pizza stand and a brownie stand that had food to die for with beverages to match, I was on the coffee, which was also very nice despite it not being their main seller.
I throughly enjoyed taking my parents and my kids there, we will be back very soon!Written October 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was lovely with many rhododendrons in flower. We would certainly recommend. The lady on the reception was very friendly and informative of the whole area.Written April 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dave PulsNottingham, UK1,052 contributionsA huge garden, which is more like an extensive woodland walk around a huge variety of Asian trees, rhododendrons, eucalyptus etc. The garden is organised around a beautiful steep gorge. Many paths are closed due to maintenance, but this does not detract and you can easily walk for an hour on circular routes. The visitor centre / cafe / shop is excellent and the staff are very friendly.Written August 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leslie W175 contributionsAuchendrain township is a cluster of homes from the 1800s that was still inhabited in the 1960s. Never cleared, it was preserved after the last resident left. All the buildings are as they were at that time and a fabulous picture of what it was like to be a crofter. When you pay to enter, you are loaned a computer pad with all the waypoints and house numbers marked. You click where you are, and can read a little or a lot about who lived there, what they did, and the housing and farming items you see in front of you. The information is extensive if you want it, surface if you don't. I was here a long time, as I wanted everything.
Don't trust SatNav when you get close, it may tell you to turn when you should stay straight just as you're arriving. The sign on the road is correct. Big carpark, taciturn but friendly staff. There's lots of stuff you could handle, so watch your kids don't actually break anything. I LOVED the guide pad.Written August 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
