King's College, the British School of Madrid, is an authorised centre in the Comunidad de Madrid. Once parents have confirmed their child's entry to our Baby Education to Pre-Nursery year groups, they can apply for the means-tested “Beca Guardería” from the Comunidad de Madrid.

Visit the Campus

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to visit the school prior to enrolment. We can arrange an online interview if an in-person visit is not possible due to geographical restrictions.

School interviews give families the opportunity to learn more about the school and meet the academic team and admissions staff.

Submit an Application

To apply to the school, parents must submit an Application Form. All student applications should include the following:

  • A scanned copy of the birth certificate, the “Libro de Familia”, identity card or the child's passport
  • A scanned copy of parents' identity documents
  • A scanned passport-size photograph
  • School reports covering two academic years, if applicable
  • Custody and divorce agreements, if applicable
  • Referee* contact details to support applications for Year 6 and above
  • The results of any academic or psychological evaluations, if applicable.

*Please note that references should be provided by a teacher/s at your child’s current school.

Assessments

Assessments for entry are as follows:

  • For applicants for Year 1 to Year 3 we would arrange for a meeting with our Head of Primary to carry out some simple literacy and numeracy tasks in English
  • For applicants from Year 4 onwards an online CAT4 (cognitive abilities test) would need to be arranged as well as an English written assessment
  • For applicants from Year 11 onwards as well as all boarding applicants, we would need to arrange an interview with a senior member of the Secondary academic team

Receive an Offer

Once all entry requirements have been fulfilled, the school will send parents/guardians a letter/email of acceptance. To confirm acceptance, parents/guardians must pay a non-refundable enrolment fee. To secure boarding entry, a returnable security deposit must also be paid to the school.

Confirmation of Admission

Once the school has received the applicant's enrolment fee and boarding deposit (if applicable), the Admissions Department will formally confirm acceptance.

Language Requirements for KC Soto

Language Requirements


New students are not required to have any previous knowledge of Spanish; however, from Key Stage 1 onwards, children with little or no prior knowledge of the language will receive Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) support.

Prospective students who wish to join Key Stage 1 and above must join the English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme if they have little prior knowledge of English.

Parents must meet the costs of the additional English support language programme. The school will determine the length of enrolment on a case-by-case basis.

Entry to the Daycare Unit


We welcome daycare and school applications throughout the academic year. Babies may join the school's daycare unit from 16 weeks of age. To qualify for entry to the pre-nursery division, children should have had their second birthday before 31st December of the year of entry.

Entry to Key Stages 1, 2 and 3


Applications for entry to Key Stage 1 and above must be supported by school reports for the previous two academic years. Reports should include details of academic achievement and behaviour. To gain admission to Years 1, 2 and 3, children must undergo an assessment by the Head of Primary.

For admission into Year 4 and above, children must sit a CAT4 baseline assessment and a written English examination. Prospective students who live overseas may complete any entrance assessments at their current school.

Spanish nationals will be enroled in the Validation Studies course (Spanish Language and Humanities), as required by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Entry to Key Stages 4 and 5


To gain admission to Year 11, individuals should have completed Year 10 of the British curriculum. Students who wish to join Years 10 or 11 after transferring from an alternative education system may undertake the one-year reduced IGCSE programme.

Applicants to the Sixth Form and Boarding School will need to attend an interview with the Headmaster or a senior member of the academic team.
