The press office has unveiled the official coronation photos of the future King and Queen of Denmark. Crown Prince Frederik, in his military regalia, and Crown Princess Mary, in an intricately beaded gown by Lasse Spangenberg and the Ruby Wreath Tiara tiara, are photographed side-by-side embodying their new roles.

Queen Margrethe’s last official photograph as monarch was released in 2021, just before her 50th jubilee. The image shows Margrethe looking pensively away from the camera, a mix of regal and wise, embodying the characteristics that have made her a stalwart of Danish culture for so many decades. In the portrait she wears the Pearl Poiré Tiara, the headpiece is a favorite of the abdicating Queen, who has worn it on many occasions since her coronation in 1972. It was believed to have been a wedding gift for her ancestor Princess Louise of Prussia in 1925 and which Margrethe, as Queen, inherited.

The Ruby Wreath Tiara, worn by Crown Princess Mary, the future Queen of Denmark, in her official portrait, was a headpiece designed for Swedish Queen Desiree Clary ahead of Napoleon Bonaparte’s coronation. The photo showed her wearing a dazzling floor length dress by designer Lasse Spangenberg. Her husband stood by her side. These were taken celebrating Crown Princess Mary’s 50th birthday in 2022.

Crown Prince Christian, whose own portrait was released to coincide with his 18th, wears the Order of the Elephant – the highest Danish symbol – on his sash. The soon-to-be heir apparent was last seen wearing the symbol at his 18th birthday bash which was attended by a glamorous set of young European royals.
