Any criticism you have of Nicholas Cage can easily be validated through a curated ‘sizzle reel’ of his performances.
And even if I made my own montage to counteract your argument, you could just say ‘I don’t like his face,’ and I’d have to admit, that is a solid point.
But no one could deny, that ‘Kill Chain’ is greatly elevated by Cage’s presence.
The movie opens with a short scene that, in hindsight, seems to be there just to prove that Cage actually has a role in the movie. Because for the next 45 minutes we get bad acting, confusing plot points and a string of scenes that seem unconnected and without a hint of Cage. This movie…

Kill Chain is literally about a kill chain 😏
& tho it appears I'm in the minority [again], I really enjoyed this! I'm kind of a sucker for crime thrillers that go down in 1 night at 1 place & have the feel of a stageplay production, which this totally does.
Plus, Cage really delivers here! & He gets to show more range than half of his straight-to-vid filmography.
There's a really good movie buried in here, & definitely feels like a passion project for writer/director Ken Sanzel. Another thing I'm kind of a sucker for.

Apparently, my most watched actor in 2020 was Nicolas Cage. So, this is my first Nic Cage film for 2021, let's keep this going!
The thing about this film... it didn't have enough Nic Cage!
Bit of rope-a-dope here. Nicolas Cage, playing the owner of a run-down Colombian hotel frequented by the underworld, is more understated than usual, keeping the manic impulses and wildness in check for almost the entire film. The events in the film, however, seem to follow the batshit logic of Cageland, and this resembles more than anything else one of those twenty-minute videos where a ball bearing is pushed along by various insane gadgets. Spiritually, the energy comes from Nicolas Cage running on a giant hamster wheel backstage after someone gives him a fistful of greenies and a Camelbak full of Red Bull.

A bit of a slow start had me worried, but this really bounced back to be a competent little DTV ride!
There's a world-class "trained assassins can't hit people at point blank range" shootout, but it's still solid fun. I'm not gonna go out of my way to recommend this, but it's definitely watchable.

There’s like almost 45 minutes in the middle of the movie where Cage is not in it and some random stuff just happens. It’s pretty dull.
Then he shows up again, things start to get interesting and then everything just fizzles out again.
It lacks a certain... Cageness.

A Nic Cage a Month Keeps You Drunk 3.0
Not sure what I was expecting from a movie called Kill Chain, but yeah it’s literally a chain of events in which people are killed, eventually leading us to Cage’s introduction half-way through. Craftily done, really. My favorite link in the chain was the first bit with Enrico Colantoni, he’s just so dang likable. Cage’s role was good too, and everything gets tied up nicely by the end. Unfortunately, I never felt invested enough in the story to care.
For a long while, this seemed like it was following the structure of Richard Linklater’s Slacker, with each scene linked together through a new character, abandoning (or in this case, killing) the character who was the focus of the previous scene. But then it gets to Cage, and I suppose he’s the lock at the end of the chain, because the story wisely never leaves him. It’s a perfectly fine crime thriller, and Cage is fun to watch in his greatest role as a hotel proprietor since Looking Glass (2018).

Serviceable VOD Cage vehicle.
Interesting plot structure, with shifting protagonists.
Cage is offscreen for a large portion, and yet I wasn't bored in his absence. I'll take that as a good sign.
He gets a decent monologue at the end too.
Things get immensely better once Nic gets to be the front runner of the film, but even his performance is dulled down a bit. Rest of it just didn’t spike my interest that much. It’s a very dehydrated story and the heavy handed editing really became annoying during the action sequences.
