Relaxing way to get to Key West and back
The entire experience was 1st class. Be sure to take your own food and beverages, to avoid high on-board prices. We were fortunate to experience very small sea swells (1' to 2') which made for enjoyable cruises.

Key West Express - easy way to go
This is an easy way to travel from Ft Myers to Key West. The boarding process is quick and easy. Drinks and snacks are available onboard. The trip takes 4 hours and it is CHILLY on the boat. If you can spend the night you should. After arriving at 12noon, we were boarding again at 5pm which means you have exactly 5 hours to spend in Key West. It's a fun way to spend a day or two without driving.

Great trip but bring cash for tips for crew
This is my second time taking The Key West Express. I have had a great experience both times and the boat ride was smooth. There are so many options on where to sit and since we were off season we got great seats with a table. My only complaint is you can’t tip the crew unless you have cash. You can buy anything from the galley or bar on a credit card but there is no tip line. I asked if I could venmo their tip and they said they were not allowed to accept venmo and I actually ordered less at the bar because I felt bad I wasn’t tipping them. I don’t understand how a company could not provide a means for their crew to receive tips which is the backbone of their compensation. My advice is if you’re going and paying by credit card, make sure to bring cash for tips because the crew does a great job.

Check-In Staff do not know what to do.
Boat ride was smooth and well executed. This was accomplished after infuriating check in process. I purchased tickets online, including parking pass. Tickets had no boarding passes and thus required additional check-in. After waiting in line, I presented my online paperwork ( to the admission office) and was told that boarding passes were not required ….once approaching the check-in gate, I was told that boarding passes are required. I communicated that the ticket agent said it was not required. The boarding agent inquired who said that? I told him that it was the, admission office, staff . That was unacceptable. He asked me to go and find out the persons name. I told him once I get the name will you let me in he said no you’ll need boarding passes. I return to the admission office and obtain boarding passes. Again approaching the check-in gate, I presented the passes and told him the name of the admission office representative name. And was told that there’s no person working with that name. Anakin was asked who else was in the office. It was obvious that they were confused themselves with who was working or what the requirements were. If you can get by their staff, which are so confused, you will have a good ride.

    Loud ride home
It was okay until we came back home tonight . The bartender let a group of people get entirely drunk and they were singing / screaming at the top of their lungs . We and many of the guests were pretty tired and just wanted a quiet ride home . It was bad . We will be going on the Marco Island ferry next time.

    Great ride to key west
The ride was great and smooth. Food options could be better. Service very friendly and efficient. Would recommend to add a baby changing table. Arrive early if you would like a seat with a table.

    Consider the weather!
The Key West Express is well run and the ferry is nicely appointed. It was efficiently run and we boarded very smoothly. Unfortunately, the day of our trip had high winds and the ride was very bumpy the entire trip. Lots of sea sickness aboard. That of course was not the fault of the company. I never felt unsafe and the crew did everything they could to help the suffering passengers. It was bad enough that we rented a car and drove home, but under different weather conditions, it would be a great trip!

    Fun quick come prepared
So the boat ride down was great , however keep in mind when you head back to Fort Meyers you are going back against the wind .. We returned last night and about 65% of the guests were very sick throwing up running to get to the fresh air , the crew really tried to accommodate anyone sick 🤢.. I would suggest taking Bonine before heading to Key West or returning to be safe . I usually get sick however I did have bonine in my purse and I quickly popped it into my mouth 😬 and a beer to keep from getting sick .. The trip is anywhere from 3 -4 hours commute will take the ferry again to Key West and bring a deck of cards to pass the time . Sure hope this review is helpful for others to have a nice trip versus sea sick ..

A fun way to travel from Fort Myers to Key West
A fun way to travel from Fort Myers to Key West. Get there early (at least 45 minutes ahead of sailing) to get a good seat. There are snacks and a bar on board. The crew can help arrange for a golf cart rental when you arrive at the Keys. We recommend a 4 hour rental to case out the island and drop your bags at your hotel if you are staying overnight. Take a deck of cards or your ipad to keep yourself occupied. Its a 4 hour ride. There isn't any WIFI so we enjoyed the view from the top deck!

Yes we would take the Key West Express again!
Nice change of pace to use "public" transportation. Our experience is that the times of departure are somewhat flexible. We left early from Fort Meyers, before 8 am, and from Key West, before 6pm. Also, our experience is they do not measure your luggage. We worked hard to make sure our duffel bags were the correct size. We were able to put our duffel bags between the seats. There were some bags that were kept on the back deck, most of those looked quite large. The snack bar was decent, not inexpensive, but not outrageous prices either.

Key West Express is a first class company. You call the night before to verify the departure time of the cruise. The trip to Key West was more enjoyable since it was day light. There is seating inside and out and they do show a movie in each direction. It is a cash only trip for food, drinks or booking sightseeing in Key West. On the way back, it leaves at 5pm, we did see a magnificent sunset, but it does get cold on the return make sure you have a jacket.

It’s been over a month since I posted this with no response from the company on Google reviews while they’ve responded to other reviews. That tells me I was right and they don’t care. Shame on you, KWE. I am posting this everywhere I can now.

Minorities/non passing - heed caution.

Frankly, a number of staff members were short and passively rude towards me. I found most of the staff to be cold towards me even when politely saying hello, or have a good day. Met with nothing, no acknowledgement just a plain stare, and allowing me to wait at the counter for service with no rush and some reluctance in attending to me, but with friendly interaction with the other patrons that walked up after or previously. Being told they didn’t have something but seeing a number of people carrying iced coffee more than an hour after boarding and being told maybe the other counter would have it but they weren’t sure. Just a bunch of folks that asked for ice with their coffee, turns out, info that was probably known and could’ve been shared instead of saying they didn’t know where they came from in the same plastic cups and lids. Well, looks like the employees carry out a number of responsibilities; from entry, to managing the floor and the counters. You don’t know where people may have got them from?

I’m Asian American, born and raised in this country, pay all my taxes, especially kind in nature, very respectful, and a pretty fantastic human. It felt like overt racism, once or twice sure, maybe just a misunderstanding, but you see the same people round trip and when they have nothing but a hard blank tight expression when being told thank you, sir, or good morning, each and every time and animated with every other person who doesn’t happen to be Asian, it’s gone too far without conviction that each of them, if not some, just didn’t like my ethnicity and that would be the best I’d receive from them while on the job. Thankful to not have to interact with them had they not been on the clock. The commute and vessel were fine. We didn’t land in Key West until 12:05, this was with us being one of the first 30 or so people out the door.

I will not ever use this service again professionally or personally and will make sure to let my contacts know I’d not recommend they do either. What an ugly shame that this type of behavior exists. To have someone smiling and turn to you with it stiffing upon seeing you. Lots of reviews about friendly staff, that’s for whites only I guess.

As we had responded on the original platform; We DO care and DO respond but, have found no such posting as you mentioned visible on any site. We would also have been happy to speak with you directly on the phone had you called. We proudly employ and have the pleasure to welcome aboard guests from different cultures, ethnicities, ages, races and creeds. On behalf of our organization, staff and guests, we take great exception to your allegations and implications and beg your pardon if you felt that our staff was short and passively rude. It is a fact that we do not serve iced coffee however, certain a cup of ice would have been provided to you if you had simply asked.

Pros;
We booked a day trip to Key West on July 8th. It was a great experience and the boat was not overcrowded and a lot of spare seating. Crew was great, seas were very calm and enjoyable on the ride down, way back we hit a storm and it got a little rough but not bad, had a great experience but a few cons I would like to mention

Cons;
1. Please hold your vendors you advertise and promote to a higher standard or get new ones - the Conch Electric Car company is horrible to deal with and I had a electric car run out of battery 2 hours after renting it and don’t think I put 3 miles on it - their cars break down, run out of battery, cars rattle and shake felling like they will fall apart anytime. The staff are extremely rude when I called about the problem and to come retrieve us, will never rent from them again, shortened our experience which is not cheap by 1 1/2 hours dealing with a cart, BUYER BEWARE and please read their reviews carefully

2. Food quality is not that good and could upscale a bit, but it is what it is or bring your own on board

3. Went to the galley 1 time and saw a crew member grabbing hot dogs off the roller grill with his bare hands and handled other food without gloves - I do think he was making his own dinner but still it is gross and not good for travelers to see that

Thank you for sharing your "great experience" and hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you aboard again. We do suggest conveniently located services that may be useful for guests upon arrival and apologize for your Electric Car experience. This certainly is a preferred mode of transportation on this predominantly pedestrian island for those that choose not to walk or bike. Agree, we are not the "upscale" dining option as we offer burgers, pizzas and the like so you can save your appetite for the wonderful culinary treats throughout Key West. We know better, participate in safe food handling training and will be addressed with the appropriate individuals.

We (5 adults) traveled on a Sunday morning to Key West from Fort Myers, arrived appx. 6:45am and almost started to load the boat, print out your boarding pass at home if you can.
I was lucky enough to get the holiday voucher sale so it saved money,($99ea) sign up for their email specials!!! Lots of empty seats Sunday morning but our return trip on Wednesday afternoon was full. Cash only on board. You might want to research your trip on weather it's worth it or to just drive, we had to drive a hour from Punta Gorda to FM. General seating so it's a scrabble to get seats once loaded, we've done it once, most likely not do it again. Appx 4hr ride.

Thank you for your feedback and for giving us a try. We hope you might consider a future trip, perhaps after "season" is past as the passenger capacity is not quite as large. The destination has so much to offer and is easily navigated without the burden of a vehicle. Warm Regards, key West Express

The crew aboard Key West Express from Marco Isd were amazing: Professional, fun, informative, engaging with passengers —and checking throughout trip down (and return) to see if we were comfortable & had what we needed. Capt’s Greg and Jamie, officer (?)Jim, Andy at bar/concessions all made the trip so enjoyable, doubt we will ever drive to Key West again! Boarding and departure from both ports was smoothly organized and prompt.-
Weather was warm and comfortable both inside cabin and on upper deck. Beautiful sunset on Gulf!
Plenty of room to relax, play cards and visit during cruise. Restrooms, seating areas and walkways were all clean and maintained.
Cost was VERY reasonable considering time saved from driving and ease of “day trip” vs staying several days.
Crew was very helpful in assisting us with info on reservations, transportation, museums, & layout of key west.
Would highly recommend to individuals, adults in groups and families as great option to see key west in a day!

The process of purchasing the round trip ticket was painless. The website is full of information needed in order to make the trip enjoyable.

The trip to Key West was without incident and everyone during the pandemic basically adhered to the guidelines issued by the Company. The Crew did as well, which was refreshing. The weather was nice, and the inside cabin was not full because several of the passengers took to the upper deck.

The return trip to Ft. Myers was another discussion. Now it was in the midst of TropStorm/Hurricane Sally, therefore the inside cabin was fully. To my dismay the face mask requirement was not enforced, and which was disturbing was that the Crew hands disregarded the requirement as well. I am aware that if you are dining or drinking that you are not able to cover, but there were other times on the 3.5 hour trip that mask were totally disregarded.

It was a relief that when we checked on the return trip because of weather, they said if the trip would have been canceled, they would have called. Not sure on information regarding rescheduling if that happened. Hopefully they would honor the return fare.

It is an adventure to take the Key West Express. Enjoy.

What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, thank you for including us in your plans! We respect and appreciate that each individual has their own beliefs and ability to make decisions in their best interest. Key West Express believes that it is prudent to continue in following best practices in sanitization, wearing of masks & social distancing. It is a requirement for travel and thank those guests for their cooperation in following guidelines and are saddened by those who exhibit such disregard.

My wife and I look forward to visiting Key West every year--just to immerse ourselves in one of the most beautiful environments Florida has to offer. Sometimes we just sit and enjoy a cool drink on the water, while watching gorgeous sunsets. At other times we enjoy some of the many water and land activities Key West has to offer. On our last visit (November 2021) we ate at an authentic Cuban restaurant and danced to the exciting music of a live latin band. What more could you ask for?

Old, old, old… expensive and old worn out… Don’t believe the video and pictures of the boat. They have two. So we decided to rent a car and drive back.

When ordering I paid $20 extra to be able to cancel and get refunded, but then when I cancelled I had to pay an extra $25 fee to change my ticket, because now I had to pay full fare one way ticket price on my trip down, so I got $30 back on the $90 return ticket… so why even offer a refund option for $20? My total gain from choosing a refund option was $10 of a $180 return ticket I used one way! I expect $90 back with a pre purchased refund option, not just $30…. Crazy!

Greed… Never again, bad review… Enjoy the drive.

The trip to Key West took 4 hours, not 3.5 as advertised. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. just in time to for lunch. After that we only had 3.5 hours to explore the city and get back to the terminal for our trip back. At the terminal, we were seated in lines of chairs with couple of hundred other passengers where we waited for about an hour before boarding. We could have stayed in the city a little longer but we were afraid of not being able to find decent seats all together on the boat. Speaking of the boat, the one we rode on is in dire need of some upkeep. The chairs, booths and tables are OLD and the cushions are so worn out that you could feel the frame of the chairs through them. Needless to say, they weren't in the least comfortable. Word of warning: there is NO WIFI on board, no USB ports or electrical outlets for device charging, and in order to watch the movie on board, be sure to get a seat with a good view so you can read the captions. There is no audio and no blue tooth. The crew on board were all very friendly and the food and beverages sold on board were average concession style products. The boat was tolerable but overall, in order to really enjoy Key West, you should try to stay at least overnight.

If you plan to use this boat line please know that the trip in good conditions is 4hrs 20min dock to dock. This does NOT include your pre-boarding parameters.
The staff on our trip was great both ways. I do recommend Key West Express. I just tell everyone that the trip is longer than advertised -- and that I will likely fly next time for the small difference in price.
