Abstract

Kenneth B. Clark, the eminent psychologist and political activist whose leadership role in the Social Science Statement in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 influenced the U.S. Supreme Court to hold racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, died at his home in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, on May 1, 2005, at the age of 90. This obituary discusses Clark's life, his professional vision, and his many achievements, including his service as President of the American Psychological Association beginning in 1970.
