I've offically have gone insane due to this quarentine because when I read this my first thought was "YES KAREN DRAG HER. START A FIGHT ON TWITTER".
I secretly want it but I also understand not messing with Ellen given her worth is 450 million.
I honestly don’t think Karen would do that in a public forum. She might say things privately to trusted friends, but she is too classy to do it on Twitter.
As much as I would LOVE to know all the details.
Every muderino knows it was Ellen.
Ehhh fuck her. I was okay with Ellen until five minutes ago, now fuck her and her big bowl of money. If the internet solves one thing this century it should be shitty people being given large amounts of money ( that's what the 20th century was all about ).
i live in houston, we have a dude here named joel osteen that is the premier example of this
Can confirm. Joel Osteen is scum
One of my favorite memories of the horrible time during Harvey was the collective bond Houstonians had over hating Joel Osteen.
Every time I drive by his "church" I give it the finger. Prosperity gospel is trash.
Ironically, Kevin T Porter is a Houston native who interned at Joel Osteen's church when he was young.
Isn’t she also abusive* to Portia DeRossi? I don’t know if that was a rumor or not...
Yes, I have heard/read those rumors too!
OH her chumming it up with Bush wasn't your nail in the coffin? Ellen's gone to Elysium and she's not the same person as she was in the 90's. She's a super-rich now.
Yuck didn't even know about that.
Relax, if Keren is not on a tweeter war you can let it go too. Plus at the end of the day we have to thank Ellen for setting her free for us to enjoy!
Ten years ago I'd agree with you, but nowadays I'm just tired of the bullshit. Her actions show she's just another greedy rich person to the point of being a sociopath.
True lol
Ellen asked Karen to scab during the strike?? That's reprehensible. Ellen is a union member too, she should have been the last person asking someone to cross a picket line.
Karen noted that Ellen was in a tough position as well being pressured by producers. But she should have known better.
I mean, I get it, but at the end of the day it's Ellen's show and she has the final say in everything, I'm sure.
As a union member, especially in film, you always stand with your fellow union brothers and sisters when they strike. Just a really, really shitty thing to do to your head writer, much less any of your organized employees...
Exactly! She had a lot of power and I remember other hosts really standing with their writers and supporting the strike! Not only was she her head writer for five years, she helped write her standup before Ellen got her own show.
I didn’t know any of this. I’m fucking shook.
Steve Carrell stood by his writers on The Office and Ellen could have too.
That wasn't Steve Carrell's show though.
Theoretically that gives Ellen more autonomy than Steve.

Every time AskReddit has a “what celebrity is actually awful” question, Ellen always comes up a number of times.
It was covered a little in her interview with Marc Maron IIRC
The interview is actually really enlightening. It's crazy.
Yeah I found it really interesting, though it is from a while ago.
is it from 2014 and 2 hours long? I want to listen but don't want to commit to 2 hours if it isn't the right episode haha.
If you could link I would love you forever :)
https://youtu.be/ndWrZ_nPEHU
Around 1:10:00 I believe. Her whole interview is really interesting and starts at 29:32.
I need to look this up! Thank you!
Omg didn’t know this existed. Going to have to dig through the archives!
Transcribed :)
KK - Nobody needed to be demonized, nobody needed to be like, she's the one that's doing all the stuff, but there was, at one point there was a story, in the National Enquirer, that I was in, about how Ellen had crossed the picket line, there was like a picture of me on the strike line, in the National Enquirer, it was the weirdest thing, and I never talked to anybody from The National Enquirer, like that was not a thing, that was not a thing you do.
When you work on a show, you sign papers of confidentiality, um...and there was no story to tell, we were on strike, it was just, it was what what it was. And they, the people, the ep's found out, uh, that that story went to the press. So there was things like that, where you've known me for 5 years, and you think, you think I would go to the fucking national enquirer, to talk about this ridiculous situation. It was like, it was all that kind of stuff.
And then, by the time it was over, people, everyone was so estranged, and everyone was so angry, and those people had to work for four months, I think it was four months, on a talk show, with no writers. Like they must have been stressed out of their minds, I mean it wasn't good. There was a couple monologues I remember people telling me about, they weren't monologues, they were just, it was her doing weird stuff like going, the writers are on strike, so I'm going to play the bongos type of stuff, didn't fly, that was not good...um, but I never watched it, I was just like,
I honestly felt like at that time, it was almost like an act of God. It's like I've been here for five years, I've given my all, this really weird thing has happened, that would never happen in a million years, is just like the strange thing. I'm out. Like this is my chance to go. And that's, I just washed my hands of it. Cuz it was just too, it was really painful.
MM - And what year was that, 2007?
KK - 2000...uh... It was 2008
MM- Yeah, and, and did that permanently rupture the relationship with Ellen?
KK - Yeah.
MM - You guys don't talk at all?
KK - No. No.
MM - That's sad.
KK - It is sad, because she was great to me. and all the stuff that I learned on that show was like, the reason I had, I get jobs now, and that was like my college. It was like college, it, uh, it was like TV production bootcamp is kind of what I've referred to it as before. It was invaluable. The people that worked there were really, really uh, smart and great, and everyone was really close. So it was, it was kind of tragic.
MM - you did the right thing.
KK - I had to.
Bless you for writing this out for us!
Dictation is amazing! That part was fairly straightforward, I’m working on the preceding bit about Ellen but it’s so much back and forth it’s a pain in the butt...and I may not finish lol
I felt like this chunk really encapsulates how she felt about the situation though.
Let’s all strive to be dialectical like Karen and not demonize people :) world is not black and white
Much love to the murderinos 🌹
Damn I scrolled to this after having watched the video LOL
This makes me love Karen even more. Thanks for sharing.
I have Kevin T. Porter to thank for indirectly introducing me to MFM.
I loved his podcast Gilmore Guys, Guy Brannum was on and plugged MFM, leading me straight to Karen and Georgia!
Kevin is awesome! He has a new podcast called Good Christian Fun about Christian Pop Culture. Definitely worth a listen and it is not made for Christians only.
i had the pleasure of getting onboard around episode 16 or so, after they appeared on the cracked podcast. they talked about jfk conspiracy theories and i was hooked ever since
The fact that Game of Games exists shows that Ellen is a sadist.
She is really openly cruel. It kind of weirds me out.
Can you fill me in on why this is cruel and sadistic? I haven’t watched even a clip of her show in years so I don’t know what Game of Games is.
She basically drops people from great heights, or sprays them with gross shit, if they get trivia questions wrong. She (I assume, or at least it is portrayed this way) controls when they fall/get punished for answering wrong. And just in general the full on joy on her face and the pleasure she gets from it is pretty disturbing.
That said, people willingly going on the show and submit themselves to it, but her sheer enjoyment of it is notable lol.
The interview is so good! Karen has such an interesting life. Thanks for the recommendation.
That’s crazy had she talked about this on the podcast?
She will casually talk about her time as a writer but never really delves into what happened... I always had the impression/gut feeling that there was bad blood or some kind of fall out.
Yeah I can’t think of any single example but she makes little quips that imply things were shitty sometimes but it’s always very subtle and goes along with her dry humor anyway so it’s hard to tell. When she talks about when she was making a ton of money but still stressed and unhappy (like would just buy cashmere sweaters all the time to try to make herself feel better), would that have been this time period?
I think so! And in her book talking about how it changed her into a person she didnt like (e.g. the fancy car she bought after getting some success in the business).
I may be wrong, but I believe she never mentions both Ellen and her "terrible writing job" at the same time. She'll mention working on the Ellen show, but if she's complaining about the job, she doesn't mention what show it was specifically.
She’s talked about how awful it was when she lived in Chicago, so I’ve assumed her terrible writing job was for Rosie.
I heard of The Dollop through MFM. Started listening to The Dollop too and loved it. Started following The Dollop on Twitter. Dave Anthony, creator of The Dollop was a part of a recent thread on Twitter about Ellen being awful. I replied that I had heard murmurings but never knew if they were true, or if she was just a strong female boss. He replied that she definitely is awful and is worse to females. I then remembered he used to date Karen so I'm assuming that's how he would know details. It's definitely crazy she's known for kindness but is such a shit person IRL.
Link to the thread please?
I replied to a tweet like 6 months ago, that's when they responded. No idea how to find it now.
Ha,I actually found it. Though @daveanthony tweets are unavailable now. His account was deleted at one point since I believe. https://twitter.com/AnaDHami/status/1222967841994891264?s=20
I neeeeed to see the rest of the stories but I hate twitter :(
Have always heard Ellen was a crazy bitch

There have been rumors about Ellen being a difficult person for years. It's like an unspoken truth.
This is FANTASTIC Thanks!
[here once stood a completely benign comment about a completely irrelevant situation]
i don’t think Karen would be disappointed in us hating anything, especially star signs, which she thinks is a load of garbage so....
The self-righteousness is nauseating. The fact that y'all took this so seriously is frightening. Your hate is incomprehensible.
Y'all act like you know both these women or what actually happened. Y'all act like you have a dog in the race that happened what 8 years ago, if not more?
The reaction to a completely brain fart of a post is over the top. The reaction says a lot about the state of mind of this group. This is indeed a cult, not in a fun way.
Reevaluate your priorities and what you invest your energy into. Especially at a time like this.
Being an Aquarius isn't an excuse to be an asshole lmao what the fuck
LMAO how the fuck did you extrapolate that from my comment? Didn't realize murderinos had such a hair trigger temper. Geez, calm down.
removes hat
From what I've heard from the comedy writers I know, Ellen being terrible is weirdly one of those things everyone in Hollywood knows but it doesn't stick.
It fascinates me how untouchable Ellen has become. The all but true rumors that float around. And then there are interviews with the celebrities which all but confirm her actions (e.g. forcing Mariah Carey to drink champagne on tv to force her to reveal her pregnancy, the Dakota Johnson party interview, being amazing pals with George W. Bush).
what is the dakota johnson thing about?
Look up her interview with Ellen. It's a very passive aggressive interview that is super uncomfortable.
I sort of have one: I used to work for a hairdresser who Ellen hired briefly, and when they told me about this, they had a weird smirk on their face. When I pressed for more they simply said “Ellen is known for going through hairdressers.” So she’s constantly firing her hairdressers.
Unrelated, that hairdresser was the worst person I’ve ever met in my life.
Yeah, I have a random one from the art world. Way back around 2005- so like, just getting back on her feet after Ellen getting cancelled- she reached out to our art gallery on the other side of the country. Not a NYC mega-gallery, but a modest one in another Mid-Atlantic city. There was an artist she was interested in, and had us ship multiple crates of things to her in LA. Back and forth for months, hundreds if not thousands of dollars in shipping. She hung on to a bunch of pieces for months, then had us pay to ship everything back when she decided she didn’t want to buy any of it. She’s become pretty renowned for her art collection, so I can only imagine what those poor gallerists have gone through.
Wow, if this is true, I’d be heartbroken for Karen, but I’d also admire how classy she apparently is since she’s never gone into specific details about why/how she left.
Respect.
Would love to find a Reddit thread with nothing but posts from people sharing their bitchy Ellen stories about themselves or celebrities.
this thread on Twitter is WILD y’all
As a lesbian, I'd to apologise to world on our behalf for Ellen. She may have paved the way and had personal tragedies, but man how quickly money made her forget all of it.
We still love lesbians! It’s fine! But thank you- lol
My sister is one and brought the most amazing woman into our family so don’t worry we know there’s tons of great ones.
Can’t judge by just one group. The lesbians I’ve met and been friends with have been some great ppl. But like any group there’s bad and good 😊
I work in tv, and let me tell you that woman is fucking insane.
Oh do tell us more!
Everyone should go read this whole thread on Twitter. I loved it so much.
Now I wanna hear more stories!!
Wow, I remember Karen hinting at working for an awful celebrity with a talk show on a MFM episode but for some reason I assumed it was Rosie O'Donnell, maybe because of the Irish thing. I've heard rumors about Ellen but OFFICIALLY NO THANKS, Ms DeGeneres
Loool Bryan Safi (from Throwing Shade) also worked as a writer on Ellen and has talked about her being a big piece of garbage multiple times!
My pal met Ellen once in LA because she nannied for a friend of Ellen’s. Can confirm, Ellen was rude AF to my pal. Have heard lots of similar stories.
Ellen reminds me of Lady Elaine from Mr. Rogers
FUCK YES! I always thought Karen was a comrade! Solidarity forever!!
anyone whose freinds with George bush can fuck off
Except Michelle Obama.
well...
We got bigger fish to fry nowadays. In retrospect, George “W” doesn’t seem so bad.
no hes still worse.
I can’t see anybody being worse than our current POTUS.
They are all awful. And while we are at it, throw Reagan on the horrible people pile too.
she is a capitalist first and foremost. they showed snippets from her special on netflix as previews for a while and it seemed like they were all name dropping expensive clothing brands, it really did not look appealing at all. she doesn't care about actual issues, just making a shit ton of money and buying things.
I watched part of her special and it was embarrassing
I agree!
Damn .. i dunno how to feel. Especially during lockdown, this is a lot to process lol
That whole thread was great.
I spent like 2 hours of my Friday night reading through this Twitter thread and was not disappointed! It was both entertaining and eye opening!
