John Doe and Jane Doe are official test accounts created by Roblox CEOs David Baszucki and Erik Cassel on June 25, 2005 (although their join dates are listed as February 27, 2006). The name John Doe refers to an anonymous male, and likewise, Jane Doe refers to an anonymous female. John Doe's user ID is #2, while Jane Doe's user ID is #3. They are infamous for being mentioned in many different fake 'hacker' stories throughout Roblox's history and were mentioned in many clickbait videos which mostly appeared in 2016–2019.

Bot accounts

During the very early days of Roblox, both accounts were used by administrators as NPCs. The NPCs were functional by being able to communicate with others. John Doe was last online on May 1, 2021, at around 4:57 PM, while Jane Doe was last online on October 4th 2023. Before their last appearance online, John Doe was last online on March 18, 2016, while Jane Doe was last online on December 4, 2015. Before all of this information came to the public, both accounts were last seen online on February 27, 2006, at around 3:06 PM (when Roblox officially left the alpha testing stage). Many people speculated that these accounts were accessed by password guessers, but it was instead Roblox cleaning John and Jane Doe's friends lists.

Rumors & Mysteries

Despite not having logged on to Roblox since 2006, John Doe and Jane Doe possessed user badges that were created in 2012 and accepted friend requests from users who joined in 2008. Maximum_ADHD created a video addressing how John Doe received badges from his place because of a bug in the Roblox client that allowed users to receive badges without playing a game.

A YouTuber named BADGRAPHIX also created a video explaining why John Doe was able to follow him. Like with the player badges, a bug in the Roblox web client allowed players to become friends with another player without them mutually agreeing to friendship (this bug has now been patched).

In around February 2017, several Robloxians such as Kazok, Equillex and more started a rumor saying that John Doe and Jane Doe would hack Roblox on March 18 (2017), and this rumor was frequently mentioned in some clickbait videos, which caused massive panic all over the game and site itself. It turned out to be false later. Roblox then had to explain the accounts in a blog post posted on March 21 (2017), and updated their appearance and cleaned their friend's lists.

The blog post goes in depth of the backstory of the accounts, clarifying the rumors and some more. The blog also clarifies that both accounts are owned and maintained by Roblox.

Rumors have circulated of John Doe being behind the attacks of September 11th, but clearly these were not true. Hopefully.

Maximum_ADHD's video where he explains how John and Jane Doe got badges from his games.

John Doe had 9 friends on his list while Jane Doe had 3 because of a bug that caused TheC0mmunity, IhaxLV, CPUVirtualization, and Ananymoos to be some of their friends in September 2015. Many other users like erik.cassel, 1x1x1x1, Games, qa and BrownCheese had this bug too. John Doe and Jane Doe's friends were later removed in late March 2017.

In September 2017, John Doe obtained the Blade of Marmora Hood. To get the hood, you had to submit an entry of a robot using Roblox Studio. It was given to users in August 2017 by submitting an entry to the contest by entering your username and linking a model.

For unknown reasons, John Doe's feed and description were changed to [ Content Deleted ] in April 2017, likely a move by Roblox to convince players that the so-called 'hacker' had been dealt with.

Somewhere in 2017, John and Jane Doe's inventories received the hat Verified, Bonafide, Plaidafied. It might be Roblox verifying the accounts to ensure hackers or password guessers won't be able to access the account.

In October 2019, Jane Doe got the Shield of Wisdom. To get this item, you had to guess correctly who would win in the RB Battles event.

In December 2020, John Doe got the GoldLika: BATTLE. To get this item, you had to guess correctly who would win in the RB Battles Season 2 event.

In May 2021, John Doe's inventory got hidden by Roblox. John Doe also had a T-Shirt containing a picture of Doge uploaded to the account around the same time.

In June 2023, Jane Doe's avatar was automatically updated to have the Stevie Standard face and the new R15 pose. Around the same time, John Doe also had the Stevie Standard face equipped, but it's avatar was not refreshed to display it. In September 2023, John Doe had their clothing removed and is only wearing the Stevie Standard face.
